Recommended Supply List

Dear Hickory Ridge Middle School families:

A few items of interest to you…

  • Schedules will be mailed to students around August 19th. Students not receiving a schedule in the mail may pick up their schedules for the 2013-2014 school year on Wednesday, August 21 from 5:30 until 7:00 pm. This time is also an opportunity for your child to visit our school, find classrooms, meet teachers, and check on bus information.
  • School hours next year are from 9:00 until 4:00. Students may begin to arrive at school at 8:35am.
  • The first day of school for students is Monday, August 26th.

Below is a list of needed school supplies. You will need to maintain these supplies throughout the year – being prepared is a major step toward a successful school year. Some teachers may require additional, class-related materials. Students will be advised of this during the first days of school.

6th Grade Supplies

  • 1 large, sturdy, three-ring binder for loose-leaf paper
  • Loose-leaf notebook paper
  • Graph paper
  • 4 marble, hardcover composition notebook – any color
  • Three-ring zipper style pencil pouch (heavy duty)
  • At least 8 subject dividers
  • #2 pencils with erasers
  • Black, blue, and red ballpoint pens
  • 8 Glue sticks
  • Scissors (safety)
  • Highlighters
  • 1 pack of colored pencils – sharpened (twistable type recommended)
  • 1 individual small pencil sharpener for colored pencils
  • 2 combination locks. Key locks and laser locks are not permitted.
  • Dry Erase markers for student use
  • 2 large boxes of facial tissues (optional)
  • Hand sanitizer (pump for teacher - optional)
  • Ruler
  • TI-30XIIS Calculator

***Composition book requirement varies from teacher to teacher. Please honor teacher requests for additional undivided notebooks.

7th Grade Supplies

8th Grade Supplies

  • Day Planner / Agenda to track homework
  • 4 (11/2-inch) sturdy, three-ring binder for loose-leaf paper; 1 for each core class with 8 dividers per notebook.
  • Loose-leaf notebook paper
  • Graph paper 2 packs
  • 1 marble, hardcover composition books
  • 4 two-pocket folder with hole-punch prongs inside
  • Pencil pouch /or box
  • #2 pencils with erasers (one box)
  • Black & blue ballpoint pens
  • Highlighters
  • Scissors
  • Glue sticks
  • 1 pack of colored pencils – sharpened
  • 2 combination locks. Key locks and laser locks are not permitted.
  • Dry Erase markers (for donation/ optional)
  • 2 large boxes of facial tissues (optional)
  • TI-30XIIS Calculator for all math classes except Algebra 1 where we will provide one for you.
  • TI-84 Graphing Calculator (Not the Silver Edition) for Algebra 1 is optional.*see above note

Students taking ART will need the following supplies during the semester ART is scheduled

  • Notebook/folder
  • #2 pencils
  • Red and black pens or markers
  • Recyclable item … no milk cartons, please
  • 1 box of tissue (optional) 1 box of Saran Wrap (optional)

Wish list : ceramic tiles – any size, empty bird’s nests, good one-side plywood 10”X12” or larger

Students will need the following supplies during the semester they are scheduled for PE

  • Tennis shoes
  • A PE uniform which includes navy shorts and a greyt-shirt ($20.00 per set to purchase at Open House-or $10 for a shirt or shorts purchased separately) The shorts must be basketball length shorts (navy blue) – No “Short –shorts” are allowed per our dress code.
  • 1 box of tissues (optional)
  • 1 Master Lock for PE Locker (No key or laser locks are permitted) -different from the one you have for you main locker.

Students will need the following supplies during the semester they are scheduled for CHORUS (year long)

1 BLACK 1 inch ring binder

  • 1 box of tissues

Students will need the following supplies during the semester they are scheduled for BIOTECH (7th and 8th Grade) and CAREER DECISIONS (6th Grade)

  • Lead pencils
  • Colored pencils
  • Scissors
  • 70 ct. spiral notebook (minimum)
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Hand soap
  • Paper towels
  • Sponges
  • Paper cups
  • Paper plates

For other Encore Classes: A project fee will be announced if needed during the first month of class.
