JOB DESCRIPTION

Class Teacher

Report to: Vice Principal

Grade: MPS/UPS

As a minimum the teacher will fulfil the professional duties set out in the current Teachers Pay and Conditions of Service document and National Standards for Qualified Teacher Status.

Purpose of the role:

  • To assist the Principal and SLT in establishing effective teaching.
  • To take full responsibility for the welfare and safety of all children
  • To promote positive behaviour from children and assist in establishing good standards of behaviour
  • To take responsibility for the management of other adults in the classroom
  • To be responsible to the Head Teacher and Governing Body and to participate in the appraisal of all staff as required

Specific duties include:

  • To be responsible for the day-to-day running of the class
  • To organise an appropriate and relevant curriculum, in consultation with other staff, and provide a stimulating environment for all children
  • To plan, organise and resource a classroom environment which facilitate all children’s independent learning and enable children to maximise their full potential
  • To ensure continuity and progression in the delivery of the new national curriculum, while supporting children who are still meeting Early Learning Goals.
  • To organise other adults deployed including Learning Support Assistants
  • To monitor children’s progress, keep meaningful records and evaluate performance through formal assessments in line with academy policy
  • To ensure the appropriate assessment and record keeping processes are in place and are carried out, including On-entry assessments
  • To arrange appropriate induction arrangements fornew children, including home visits where appropriate
  • To assist in the production and/or review of relevant JLA policies and documentation
  • To liaise closely with the Reception staff in order to provide continuity and progression in children’s learning
  • To implementJLA policies and procedures with specific regard to Safeguarding and Health and Safety
  • To work closely with parents in order to develop and maintain a positive home-school partnership, including appropriate reporting of progress
  • To organise and attend relevant parent meetings/evenings
  • To organise workshops for parents/carers of children, for example, relating to language and mathematical development
  • To requisition appropriate materials and equipment forlearning.
  • To keep up to date with current initiatives and curriculum developments as the relate to year
  • To identify, in consultation with other staff, priority areas for development and contribute to the annual Academy Development Plan identifying objectives, targets and success criteria
  • To liaise with the SENCO to ensure the early identification of children’s needs
  • To work with co-operatively with external agencies
  • To develop and maintain links with other settings in the community
  • Support the aims and ethos of the academy at all times, promoting these to parents and carers and to colleagues, visitors and other professionals both
  • To set a good example in terms of punctuality, attendance, behaviour and dress, and to support the development of the academy’s reputation and standing in the community

These duties may be reviewed as part of the academy’s appraisal process.
