The Research Nurse Manager will be responsible for the oversight of the administrative and clinical staff to implement one or more complex clinical research studies. Manages and is a resource for staff to provide advanced clinical nursing care directly to patients/families with complex care needs, through the integration of specialty knowledge and expert clinical reasoning and through the application of the nursing process in a research setting. Job requires utilizing a thorough knowledge of principles, concepts and theories in research studies and associated protocols for the design, implementation, oversight and analysis of clinical trials. Job requires collaboration with faculty, Pediatric Clinical Research Unit, IRB, and various other internal staff members on development, implementation, and management of various research studies. Candidate will have a direct reporting relationship with the Principle Investigator.

% of Time / Duties
1.  Staff Management
a.  Recruits, selects, develops, counsels, disciplines, and evaluates performance of employees to retain a diverse workforce; administers and ensures compliance with human resources policies and procedures. Observes and assesses work; provides feedback; may provide technical supervision; develops knowledge, skills and abilities of staff, students, faculty and/or other clients; plans and supports employees in career development opportunities.
2.  Nurse Manager for multiple studies that includes multi-centered of moderately complex to complex NIH grants and private contracts. Primary role is to assist PI with the development, implementation, management and coordination of multiple studies. Duties below include the management of and will participate in.
a.  Ensures writing and submitting IRB applications, renewals, and amendments and will also ensure staff has necessary IRB training requirements
b.  Develops, implements, and maintains SOPs
c.  Based on study protocols will create study documentation and case report forms
d.  Based on research protocols will design Regulatory binders for studies and will oversee maintenance for the life cycle of the study.
e.  Ensure that studies comply with applicable regulations and guidelines, including GCRC, and that staff adhere to study protocols and procedures
f.  Ensure that study is conducted according to all applicable regulations and guidelines and adhere to standard operating procedures specified in protocol manual.
g.  Act as contact between PI and other research sites and institutional partners
h.  Development and implementation of strategies for study recruitment and retention of participants
i.  Maintain working relationships with other study teams both internal to JHU and external to Pediatrics
j.  Develop, implement and ensures compliance of QA/QC activities related to all studies
k.  Schedule, organize and run weekly progress meetings for active studies
3.  Nursing activities related to research include. Duties below include the management of and will participate in.
a.  Patient assessment, PFTs, eNO measurements, vital signs, allergy testing, collection of nasal epithelial cells, saliva and blood specimens.
b.  Identify and analyze staff, patient and system issues that impact our subjects in the research setting. Strategize and implement resolutions to better serve our subjects.
c.  Participate in the open staff meetings for PCRU to improve the research experience for our subjects
d.  Provide nursing care as needed for subjects/families in a research setting
4.  Data Management
a.  Oversee the collection of study data, that includes ensuring data reflects the requirements of the study.
b.  Will analyze research data and will contribute to writing sections of or drafting portions of manuscripts.
c.  Present study data for on-site visits from sponsor and at professional association meetings.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in nursing or related discipline required. Master’s degree preferred.

Five years progressively related experience. Master’s degree may be considered in lieu of some experience.

Current CPR certification and RN licensure in the state of Maryland required.

Ability to work independently, exercise discretion and mature judgment, and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.

Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Detail oriented, well organized, self-motivated, time management skills, general computer knowledge.
