Test IT Parvovirus FAQ’s
Canine PARVOVIRUS
1)How does the TestIT Rapid test sensitivity and specificity determined?
Results of the rapid tests are compared to the results of other tests known to be very accurate, and in each case the gold-standard test was chosen. That means the best test available for each determination.
Gold standard method (=criterion standard method) = "diagnostic standard for a particular disease or condition, used as a basis of comparison for other (usually non invasive) tests. Ideally, the sensitivity and specificity of the criterion standard for the disease should be 100%.”
2)What are the sensitivity and specificity of the Test-IT parvo. Tests?

3)Is the TestIT Giardia test an ELISA test?
All the TestIT rapid tests are Immunochromatographic assays (I/C). These involve direct Antibody/ Antigen conjugation. Unlike ELISA tests, they do not require and enzyme link to a secondary antibody.
4)What are the advantages of the Parvovirus TestIT rapid test compared with other techniques?

5)What strains of Canine Parvovirus, CPV, do the Test-IT tests test for?
Our rapid tests test for the core antigen of CPV-2, 2a,2b,2c.
6)How should the sample be stored?
The sample can be stored at 2-8◦ for 24 hours, or kept frozen at -25◦C for later use.
7)Can vaccination against Canine Parvovirus cause false positives?
Vaccination with live strains can affect results. Wait two weeks post vaccination before testing.
8) I tested a parvovirus symptomatic dog and it was negative on the Test-IT Parvo Test. Why would I receive this result?
This dog may have been past its “shed window.”
“The shed window for CPV is typically highest day 4 to day 14 post exposure. Viral shedding in the faeces commences approximately 4 days after infection and reaches a peak about the time clinical signs first occur. Virus shedding begins to wane by day 8–12 (post infection). And is usually absent by day 14–15. It is important, therefore, to collect faeces for viral detection at the onset of clinical illness.”1
Alternatively, the animal may have another condition that causes symptoms similar to that of parvovirus (e.g.canine coronavirus)
8)Will the Test-IT rapid test cross react with other coronavirus’s.?
The rapid tests are proven to be highly specific, so there is no cross reaction or ‘confusion’ with other virus’s.
