Name of Organization: Truro Sport Heritage Society
The Truro Sport Heritage Society is a non-profit organization that supports the history of sport in Truro and Colchester all year round. The organization has two major functions in the year: The Colchester County Wall of Fame induction (in November) and the Truro Sport Heritage Annual Sports Awards (in March). In addition, the society maintains an area at the Marigold Centre to act as the Truro Sports Hall of Fame. The Society is established to help preserve the great history of sport in the region and help celebrate the sporting accomplishments of the athletes, teams and builders over the years as well as celebrate the success of athletes in any given year.
Responsibilities, Duties and Skills
· Works well independently
· Suitable for a Recreation Student or equivalent
· Computer skills an asset. Familiar with the technology: face book, twitter, word and data base entry
· A strong knowledge of various sporting activities, sport history and public relations
· Works well with volunteers and community sport groups
· Requires good writing skills
· Develop a marketing campaign to attract more nominations for both the Colchester Sports Wall of Fame induction and Truro Sport Heritage Annual Awards
· Promote the Colchester Sports Wall of Fame and the Annual Sport Heritage Awards Dinner at various functions and events throughout the community
· Develop standard posters, certificates, letters and other related material for both events
· Collect and update the history of all those inducted into the hall. Develop displays to be at the Marigold Culture Centre and have them displayed on a rotation basis.
· Develop a list of sponsors for both events. Send thank you notes to all sponsors and develop a clear data base
· Review daily papers and information and file those in categories for nominations as part of the annual sports awards
· Scan photos and identify athletes in photos
· Update the history of local athletes from the various schools in the area ie. Male and female athletes of the year and special accomplishments
· Ensure sponsors and Truro Sport Heritage important information are included on the website
· Continue to update the data base of the sports history of the annual awards
· Assist with annual blueberry fundraiser in August. As well as help establish another fundraising event in the summer months
· Update forms for both the nominations for Wall of Fame and nominations for the annual awards and send around to groups
· To perform daily administrative duties
· Answering inquiries
· Drafting letters
· Collect sports history from the area
· Filing, computer work
· Clean up storage area for society
· Inventory products in the hall and in storage
· Attend various events and meetings to help promote the organization
· Other duties as required by the society
