II. Students who have never completed Career Cruising:

1. Have students log in using the username and password on the handout provided by the guidance office.

a. www.careercruising.com/ilp

2. Students will first be asked to insert an e-mail address. This is a way in which we, as administrators of Career Cruising, may communicate with the students. They may enter school’s e-mail ().

Career Matchmaker

3. On the left side of their screen, they will see a series of buttons. The third option from the top reads “Career Matchmaker”. They will choose this option.

4. The first task for the student will be to answer a series of questions under “Interest Inventory”.

5. When finished with the initial questions, Career Cruising will display a list of 40 careers that match the student’s interests. Students should choose “Save to my ILP” when this list appears.

6. Once they save, students must choose “Review & Revise” at the bottom of the screen. Students may save comments as to their reaction of the list of careers displayed for them.

7. Now the status bar at the top of their ILP homepage should move to the right and the completion status rate should increase.

8. Students should choose “Return to Career Matchmaker”.

9. At the top right, students will choose “Answer more questions”. They should save and review again once this series of questions has been answered.

10. Return to Career Matchmaker.

11. On the right-hand side of the screen, students should choose “Skills Assessment”. This series of questions addresses the student’s skills, such as working with computers.

12. The list of 40 careers now will have letters next to them: A (the student’s skills closely match with the career) thru F (the student’s skills do not match with the career).

13. Save and Review & Revise.

14. Students should return to Career Matchmaker.

Careers That Interest Me

15. Career Cruising gives information about each career in the following areas: Job Description (what does a person in this career do); Working Conditions (what is the environment for someone in this career); Earnings (entry-level through top level); Career Path (what are the steps); Education (including a high school plan and post-secondary); Related Jobs; Other Resources (organizations associated with this career); and Photos & Interviews of actual people in this career.

16. Students will choose careers from their top 40 and research the information listed above. For the careers that interest them, the students will choose “Save to my ILP”. They need to save at least, but not limited to, two careers.

Schools That Interest Me

17. From the saved careers, students are to select the Education tab and choose a “Related College Majors” of their choice. This is the first deciding factor in choosing which college to attend.

18. After they choose which major, they are asked to choose which state they would like to attend college.

19. Colleges for each state are organized into 2-year, 4-year and graduate school. If they know the education needed is at least a 4-year degree, this is the option they should choose.

20. The students will see the list of colleges/universities in the state of their choice that meets the requirements for the major.

21. Career Cruising provides the following information for most of the schools (but not all) listed: School Profile (the basics on the school, including a link to the school’s web site, address, etc.); Admissions (what is required); Academic Information; Estimated Expenses; Enrollment; Facilities & Services; Student Life; Athletics; and Majors Offered.

22. Students must save two colleges to their ILP, although it is recommended to save four (two in-state and two out-of-state). They also must Review & Revise, saving comments as to why they saved each school.

Goals & Plans/Activities/Awards/Education Plan

23. Students will complete and save remaining sections of their ILP: Goals & Plans; Activities & Experiences; Awards & Recognitions; Education Plan*** (see next step); and Learning Services.

24. ***Education Plan: Students will be asked to input their schedule for the current year and the next year. If they do not include the correct amount of credits for the current year, the program will not allow the student to Review & Revise. Without this, they will not be 100% complete at the end.

25. When finished with each section, students must select “Review & Revise”. Without doing this, their status bar and completion rate will not change.

26. When complete with all of the sections, students should return to the ILP Homepage.

27. In the middle of the page, there is link entitled “Annual Review”. This is an opportunity for the student to reflect on what they have completed from year-to-year.

28. The students have now completed all that they can and can no longer do anything until the teacher has completed the directions under “When students are at 8_%”.

29. Please see the directions at the bottom entitled “When students are at 8_%”.

III. Students who have already completed Career Cruising:

1. Have students log in using their username and password on the handout provided by the guidance office.

a. www.careercruising.com/ilp

2. Students should first view the completion status bar at the top of this page. They should choose the “View Details” to see what is not complete. Some may have only their Annual Review and Student Survey; however, all must complete the following steps as well. Some may have to complete more than just the following.

3. From their ILP Homepage, students will select Career Matchmaker. This should display the top 10 of the 40 careers the program suggests for them.

4. Under the listing of the 10 careers, students should select “Go to Career Cruising”.

5. On the right side of the page, students should select “Review my answers and make changes”.

6. This will display the same questions they have already answered and allow the students to change the way they would answer now (almost all of the students will change their answers from year-to-year).

7. When complete, they should select “Save to my ILP” and then choose “Review and Revise”.

8. From the ILP Homepage, students must select each of the sections and update or change things from the previous year, especially “Education Plan”.

9. ***Education Plan: Students will be asked to input their schedule for the current year and the next year. If they do not include the correct amount of credits for the current year, the program will not allow the student to Review & Revise. Without this, they will not be 100% complete at the end.

10. Other items they may update include Community Service, Work Experience, etc. This is an opportunity for the students to update items on their resume as well.

11. When complete with each of the sections, students should return to the ILP Homepage.

12. In the middle of the page, there is link entitled “Annual Review”. This is an opportunity for the student to reflect on what they have completed from year-to-year.

13. The students have now completed all that they can and can no longer do anything until the teacher has completed the directions under “When students are at 8_%”.

IV. When students are at 8_%:

1. The students have now completed all they can and now you have a task to complete.

2. Log on again as an administrator to Career Cruising.

a. www.careercruising.com/ilpschool

b. Username: kentuckyilp

c. Password: dixieheights

a. Administrator: last name and phone extension (ex: smith123)

3. Choose “View my students”. This will display only those students on your rosters.

4. For each student, review their selections.

5. Choose “Annual Review” and comment on their ILP.

6. On the bottom of this dialogue box, choose “Complete” and “Save”.

7. Once you have completed this task, the students’ completion status should increase to around 92%.

V. Final step for students:

1. In order for the students to reach 100%, they must complete the “Student Survey”. This is a very short task that can be assigned as homework, or more lab time can be scheduled. This final step can not be completed until you have completed your portion of the annual review (the steps above).

2. From the ILP Homepage, students should select the survey.

3. Once complete, the students’ status bar should be full and their completion status should be 100%.

VI. Grading:

1. Grading, as always, is strictly up to the teacher. It is not required to assign a grade, but it may prove more motivating to the students.

2. One suggestion is to give the students a deadline of when to complete the student survey. On this day, you can go back into the program as an administrator. Select “View my students”. This allows you to easily see the completion status of each student. Whatever their percentage is, that is their grade.

3. Another suggestion is to give the students a participation grade.
