- FYE and Early Alert Update – Alex Cuatok reported
- Early alert is targeted for Spring 2017.
- SARS’s Alert need to have better documentation and student contact.
- Counselors do not have access to SARs Alert so we need to work better to track FYE students
- SARS’s Alert is in its 2nd semester.
- FYE email only goes to coordinator.
- Early Alert workshop is on January 10th form 1-2pm in room 932 and on January 11 from 2:15-3:15 in room 951. This is an open invitation to all counselors; it will be of great benefit to them.
- Committee will look to see what system could be implemented.
- Recommended to expand to EOPS & DSPS.
- Pilot group for tracking is FYE program enrolled students
- SP17 Alex is available if we have any questions regarding SARS alert; he is working on a PowerPoint.
- Fernando Gutierrez updated the committee on Academic Project/Dismissal forFall 2012 to Fall 2016. A handout was distributed with a five year trend on students who re-enrolled that was placed on academic probation/dismissal status. There are 14 different statuses but he clumped them into 3. These numbers are hinged on our policies and procedures of statuses.
Discussions
Student who had a low GPA from another college and is doing well at MSJC is a good candidate for a petition. They have academically improve which is one of the criteria to grand a petition.
- Enrollment is responsible to send out letters to students who are on Academic Project/Dismissal letting them know of their standings and the consequences. They are presently creating this letter which will be sent out January 14, 2017. It was suggested the letter could invite them to a workshop to help them improve.
- An additional Proposed Goal/Objective was approved by the committee:“Identify recommendations to submit a recommendation(s) to College Council or MAC.”
- This proposal will be submitted to Academic Senate as an information item for their review before submitting to CC or MAC.
- Assessment Related Course Additions: Per Angela, three new courses were added; Math 60, English 94 and non-credit Math sequence. To get into Math 60 or 94 a pre-requisite co-requisite form will be needed. Non-credit is under discussion.
