A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in loving memory and honor of Jasper Dudley Ward.
With deepest respect and admiration, we pay homage and tribute to Jasper Dudley Ward, and we pause in silent reverence for his soul.
WHEREAS, Jasper Dudley Ward was born on October 8, 1921, a native of Flemington, New Jersey, and longtime resident of Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky, and he traversed these earthly bounds on January 13, 2002; and
WHEREAS, Jasper Dudley Ward was the loving son of the late Jasper Dudley Ward, Jr. and Constance Allen Ward; he was the devoted husband of the late Lucretia "Lukey" Baldwin Ward; he was the loving father of Teka Ward, James R. Ward, Abby Ward, Mike Ward, and Nick Eaton; he was the proud grandfather of Tye and Lacey T. Smith, Jr., Echo DeVore, Jasper Dudley Ward IV, Kevin Michael Ward, Casey Ward, Constance Louise Ward, Clarissa Pfister, Hannah D. Eaton, and Alexander B. Eaton, and great-grandchildren, Luke Alexander Pfister, Abigail Pfister, Chloe DeVore, and Sophia DeVore; and he was a special and loving companion to Gayle Bright; and
WHEREAS, Jasper Dudley Ward was an esteemed member of the Jefferson County community, where he was a renowned architect who designed many landmark buildings in downtown Louisville; and to mention only a few of his monumental accomplishments, he designed the Student Activities Center at the University of Louisville, co-designed the riverfront Belvedere, and he worked on the design of the Louisville Zoo; he won awards from the Kentucky Society of Architects for the Parking Authority of River City garage at 120 South Sixth Street, the auditorium and music building at the Kentucky School for the Blind, the Louisville Gardens parking garage, Portland Elementary School, and the impressive Neighborhood Settlement House in Portland; and
WHEREAS, Jasper Dudley Ward was the recipient of a National Award of Merit from the American Institute of Architects for his design of the Walter P. Swain House in Watchung, New Jersey, and his design for the building for City Blue Print Company at 140 West Jefferson Street is now part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York; and
WHEREAS, Jasper Dudley Ward was genuinely committed to his community; an outspoken activist, he advocated volunteer regulation of billboards, he opposed the decision to build Interstate 64 along the Ohio River, and recently, he was a member of the Cornerstone 2020 group responsible for writing Jefferson County's comprehensive land-use plan; and
WHEREAS, the passing of Jasper Dudley Ward has left a void that cannot be filled, and he is mourned across the length and breadth of the Commonwealth;
NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The Senate does hereby express its utter sense of bereavement upon the passing of Jasper Dudley Ward, and extends to his family and many friends its most profound and deepest sympathy.
Section 2. The passion, dedication, intelligence, and social consciousness Jasper Dudley Ward brought to this Commonwealth will never be forgotten.
Section 3. When the Senate adjourns this date, it does so in loving memory and honor of Jasper Dudley Ward.
Section 4. The Clerk of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to the Honorable Mike Ward, 1905 Deer Park Avenue, Louisville, Kentucky 40205.
