background information
Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate is a forward looking Independent Foundation of four schools, with 1750+ students aged between 3 – 18 years. The schools are based on the extensive Thorpe Underwood estate with Thorpe Underwood Hall at its centre. As the Collegiate has grown, additional buildings, boarding houses and sports facilities have been added. The buildings and grounds are first rate with substantial investment giving purpose built facilities. Boys and girls are recruited from the UK and internationally, and many are boarders who live on campus.
Chapter House Preparatory School incorporates the Kindergarten, which many of our staff use on a daily basis for their children. At the beginning of Year 6 children join King’s Magna Middle School and remain until the end of Year 9 when they transfer into one of our senior schools.
Students can choose from two pathways at Year 10 depending on their strengths and interests, ensuring that all, no matter what their ability or interests, are helped to achieve their full potential. The College offers a traditional academic pathway that includes fast tracking of examination courses and an enrichment programme within the timetabled day. The Faculty offers both academic and vocational study routes that include creative and performance sport programmes, fast tracking for the most able, academic mentor support and a highly successful International department which provides language support for students who have English as an additional language. Students in our middle and senior schools share facilities and many of our staff teach across Key Stages 3 - 5.
Visitors to the Collegiate comment on the warm, family atmosphere and the happy students. The four schools ensure that every young person is known individually. Day students are welcome to enjoy all of the facilities and opportunities available to a boarder, but have chosen to return home at the end of a busy day. Our international community is celebrated and reflects an outward looking approach and enriches the educational experience that is offered, where all are expected to follow the philosophy of ‘being the best that they can, with the gifts that they have’.
