WCPSS Read to Achieve Portfolio Procedures
Completed Portfolio(for students who are using the portfolio as a Good Cause Exemption) / Incomplete Portfolio
(for students who have been working on a portfolio and have NOT completed the portfolio by the end of the year and DO NOT pass the EOG, Read to Achieve Test or qualify for a Good Cause Exemption) / Stopped Portfolio
(for students who do not need a portfolio as a Good Cause Exemption)
The following items should be included
- Component 1: Individual Student Summary Report for Reading 3D. Teachers should print student summary pages that include benchmarking and progress monitoring scores.
- Component 2: PEP (if applicable)-all updates, reviews and changes to the PEP must be documented and kept in the completed student portfolio
- Component 3: All attempted, scored and verifiedpassages must be contained in the portfolio. Students must have demonstrated proficiency on atleast three passages for each of the 12 standards.
- Hard copy of Electronic Student Summary Score Sheet
- Promotion Recommendation Form
- Students who pass the EOG AND have a completed portfolio: The contents of the portfolio DO NOT have to be included in the cumulative folder and should be shredded.
- Incomplete portfolio remains at base school during Reading Camp
- Store in secure location
- At the beginning of the new school year, provide incomplete student portfolio to 4th grade teacher of record
- At the beginning of camp, the principal, assistant principal or IRT will drop off a hard copy of the Electronic Student Summary Score sheet to the host site.
- At the end of camp, the principal, assistant principal or IRT will pick up all attempted and scored passages, along with completed copy of Electronic Student Summary Score Sheet.
- Store securely
- School decides who will enter data into Electronic Student Summary Score Sheet at base school site at the end of camp.
- At the end of camp, return to IRT and store securely.
Good Cause Exemptions:
- Students who demonstrate, through a student reading portfolio, reading proficiency appropriate for third grade students.
- Students who demonstrate proficiency on the Read to Achieve Test.
- Limited English Proficiency students with less than two school years of instruction in ESL Program.
- Students with disabilities whose individualized education program indicates (i) the use of the Extend I alternate assessment, (ii) at least a two year delay in educational performance, or (iii) receipt of intensive reading interventions for at least two school years.
- Students who have (i) received reading intervention and (ii) previously been retained more than once in kindergarten, first, second or third grades.
- Students who demonstrate reading proficiency appropriate for third grade students on approved alternative assessments approved by the State Board of Education.
- Component 1: Copy of Individual Student Summary Report for Reading 3D that includes benchmarking and progress monitoring scores
- Component 2: Personal Education Plan(if applicable)
- Component 3: Hard copy of Electronic Student Summary Score Sheet indicating completion of 3 examples of mastery with a combined score of 70% or above for each of the 12 standards
- Promotion Recommendation Form
- All items are kept in orange folder within student cum folder.
- Component 1: mClass Reading 3D benchmarking and progress monitoring
- Component 2: PEP (if applicable)
- Component 3: all attempted and scored passagesand
Completed Portfolio

(for students who have been working on a portfolio and have NOT completed the portfolio by the end of the year and DO NOT pass the EOG, Read to Achieve Test or qualify for a Good Cause Exemption) / Stopped Portfolio
(for students who do not need a portfolio as a Good Cause Exemption)
- Sign Student Promotion Recommendation Forms for any third-grader that has completed the portfolio requirements
- The Promotion Roster does not need to be sent to Central Office for Superintendent signature as Data and Accountability with the Superintendent will submit all necessary information.
- Shred all attempted and scored passages once the portfolio has been reviewed and the Promotion Recommendation Form completed.
