JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: GLA Campaign Press Officer

Reporting to: London Fed. Media Officer as immediate line manager and overall accountability to the Campaign Manager

Length of Contract: 1st October 2011 to 6th May 2012

Place of Work: Green Party Office and (where appropriate) working from home.

Salary: £34,000 p.a pro-rata

MAIN DUTIES

·  Ensure the London Green Party candidates and campaign messages are given maximum media publicity in accordance with the agreed London Elections Strategy

·  Work closely with the GLA Campaign Team, candidates and campaign activists to organise media events and publicity

·  Contact journalists in press, broadcast and online media and circulate regular press releases, using the London Green Party media database

·  Organise campaign launches as directed

·  Support constituency media activities, where appropriate.

·  Manage press office interns and media volunteers working on the GLA campaign.

·  Keep the London Media Officer advised at all times, of campaign progress

PERSON SPECIFICATION

QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING:

It is essential that the postholder has:

·  A degree or equivalent experience

It is desirable that the postholder has:

·  Evidence of continuing professional development

·  A professional public relations qualification, Diploma IPR or equivalent

·  An NCTJ qualification

EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE:

It is essential that the postholder has:

·  Demonstrable experience working within a communication, press or other media

·  environment

·  Experience of working with published, electronic, and broadcast media

·  Experience of working with a broad range of internal and external contacts

It is desirable that the postholder has:

·  Experience of working in a political or campaigning environment

·  Knowledge of London politics

·  A network of London media contacts

·  Project or event management experience

·  Experience of working with volunteers

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

It is essential that the postholder has:

·  Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills

·  Creative written ability and ability to write press releases and briefings to tight deadlines

·  Ability to communicate in a positive and professional manner

·  Computer literacy

·  A pragmatic approach to problem solving.

·  The ability to perform internet-based research and write briefings

·  The ability to meet tight deadlines and prioritise competing demands

·  The ability to self start and self manage

·  An ability to work with a wide range of people with varying demands

ATTITUDES AND BEHAVIOURS:

It is essential that the postholder has:

·  A can-do attitude to work, concentrating on solutions rather than focussing on

·  difficulties

·  A sympathy with and understanding of green politics
