- DRESS CODE (Student Created)
- In order to create a conducive learning environment at CCTL and to promote a positive image of CCTL on the campus of MCC, it is imperative that students exercise good judgment and a sense of common decency in regards to dress. CCTL is a special community, and it is believed that all students are able to discern the differences between appropriate and inappropriate dress. However, if there is any doubt as to what is acceptable, the following guidelines have been established to guide student decisions. Basically, if you remember the 4 “B’s (no breasts, bellies, butts, boxers), you should find your clothing acceptable.
- No pajama pants
- No jeans that reveal boxers or inappropriate anatomy (especially when sitting or bending over)
- No jeans with holes above mid-thigh
- No shorts and skirts shorter than mid-thigh
- Spaghetti straps (allowed only with something over or under; no cleavage)
- No tank tops with huge holes in the side revealing upper torso
- Tank Tops (allowed with at least 1 inch strap; no cleavage)
- No clothing or accessories that may present safety issues (e.g. choker dog collars, spiked apparel, long chains)
- No undergarments showing
- Further clarification:
- No clothing should refer to drugs, alcohol, or nicotine.
- No clothing with offensive material (Ex. rebel flag, racial slurs, swastika, language, sexual references, etc.)
- No clothing should make references to weapons or to violence
- Head coverings are subject to teacher discretion on CCTL and MCC campus
- No tops should expose any portion of the breasts
- TRANSPORATION
- Bus Routes--Bus routes to and from school will be provided. The bus will pick up and drop off students at central locations in the community. Parents are responsible for getting their students to and picking them up from these central locations.
- Special School Functions--Parents are responsible for transporting their children to and from school for special functions. These include but are not limited to the following: field trips, social functions, tutoring, or college classes which do not fall during the regular school day or during the summer.
- Mitchell In-Session/CCTL Not in Session—There are four days in the school calendar when Mitchell classes will meet but CCTL is not in session. These dates are November 11, November 23, February 27, and April 6 and 9. On those days, students must provide their own transportation to college classes.
- Mitchell Student Parking Passes—In order for students who drive to park on Mitchell’s campus, they need to obtain a Mitchell parking pass to put on their car. Passes are free and can be obtained from the receptionist at the Main Building or from Campus Security on Cherry Street. With the exception of fifth year students, once a student arrives on campus, they are not to drive off campus until the end of the school day.
- PARENT/GUARDIAN INVOLVEMENT
- Parents/guardians will participate in student led conferences with their child once each semester. Student led conferences give your child an opportunity to share his/her learning and develop communication and presentation skills.
- Parent workshops will be provided covering information about the school and important information concerning financial aid and college applications. Parents/guardians are expected to attend the meetings appropriate to the grade level of your student.
- We welcome parent volunteers for chaperoning trips, proctoring for tests, serving as guest speakers, or helping in other ways. Please fill out the parent volunteer form and return to the school office. We will be giving the information to our PTO.
- PTO—CCTL does have a parent/teacher organization. They often help with fundraising, social events, and organizing volunteers.
- COMMITTMENT
- Students are required to show a much greater level of personal responsibility for their behavior and academic performance than traditional high school students because of the rigor in high school classes and their presence on a college campus.
- Students and parents understand that CCTLEarlyCollege is a five year program. However, in some cases, students may be able to complete their high school diploma and associate’s degree in four years.
- Students understand that they represent CCTL no matter where they are on campus and should behave in such a manner that brings pride to our program.
- Students and parents recognize that all CCTL students receive a two year college scholarship—FREE tuition and books.
- COMPUTER USE
- As a technology school, and in preparing our students for the workforce of tomorrow, CCTL utilizes computers in every class. CCTL has a 1 to 1 laptop initiative in place at the school.
- The computers are self-insured, the cost of the insurance is $40 for the school year. This must be paid prior to the issuance of a computer to your student. The $40 can be paid on-line as well as at the school.
- Each parent is to attend technology training prior to laptops being issued to students.
- Further details will be provided at the technology trainings.
- STUDENT SUPERVISION AND SAFETY
- Students are supervised when in CCTL buildings and on CCTL property.
- Students walk unaccompanied to their college classes and other places on campus, such as the library or student center. We encourage students to walk in groups at these times.
- Students in college classes are mixed with the general college population. This means they could be in class with students who just graduated high school to students who are senior citizens.
- CCTL addresses safety on the college campus and in their college classes. However, parents should also talk with your child about safety issues related to being in class with adult students.
- LIBRARY CARDS
- Iredell County Public Library (Statesville)--Students shouldobtain an Iredell County Public Library card. Parent signature is required to obtain this library card.
- Mitchell Community College—CCTL faculty will take care of helping students procure a college library card.
- MATRICULATION BOARD
- The matriculation board’s purpose is to establish and maintain a systematic review of the academic, social/emotional, attendance and discipline related growth and development of all CCTL students in order to determine at which point, if at all, students who meet established referral criteria would benefit more from modification of or removal from the early college program than from continued enrollment in it.
- Students may be asked to appear before this board of Mitchell and Early College faculty for any of the following reasons:
- Final course grade of “D” or “F” in any one course – high school or college – for the third time since initial enrollment.
- Failure of any class – college and/or high school.
- Combined weighted GPA of less than 2.0.
- More than 5 absences from any class – college or high school – for any reason.
- Skipping of class – college or high school.
- Administratively dropped from class by any teacher or instructor for repeated or severe single disciplinary or attendance infractions from college class.
- Discernible pattern of deliberate academic irresponsibility (determined either by college instructor notification of the Principal and/or Liaison or by high school teacher’s documentation submitted to the CCTL Principal by the 75th school day of the semester).
- This board is independent of the Mitchell Community College Academic Advisory Board which addresses students who do not maintain a 2.0 GPA.
