PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Applicants (or project teams) shouldprepare a written description of your forestry project, following these guidelines:
  • Text shall be written in Russian or English;
  • Use Times New Roman font, size 14, line spacing of 1.5, and 2 cm margins,
  • Pages must be numbered
  • Total text should not exceed 20 pages, format A4 (including all Attachments and Appendices: pictures, tables, photos, figures, charts, etc.)
  • Please organize your Project Description as follows:
-Title page
-Summary (no more than 20 lines)
-Introduction
-Description of the used methods
-Description of research and results
-List of references
-Appendices (attached separately)
Please submit your project description by email with your completed application form to by July 15th, 2013.

All applicants should understand that:

  • The official details of the competition (dates, exact location and schedule, etc.) will be announced by the Russian Federal Forestry Agency in June or July. If you are planning to apply, please contact Jennifer Smith (see below) to learn those details and find out if there have been any changes to the application process.
  • Selection will be according to the suitability of the project to the competition guidelines, as outlined by the Russian Federal Forestry Agency.
  • A panel of USFS experts will review all applications and will select ONE project (up to two participants per project are allowed). The final decision of acceptance to the competition will be made by the competition organizers (RFFA).
  • COSTS: USFS International Programs will cover the international travel costs for selected competition contestants (one or two individuals representing one project), and the Russian Federal Forestry Agency will cover costs for meals, lodging, and ground transportation while the contestants are in Moscow. Contestants will need to cover any additional costs themselves (cultural activities, souvenirs, project supplies, etc.)
  • A representative from USFS International Programs who is familiar with Russia and fluent in Russian language will accompany the contestant(s).Participants do not need to have any Russian language skills; all official competition events will have professional interpreters.
