One of Scotland’s oldest businesses scoops national environmental award
Silver accreditation from Keep Scotland Beautiful for Glasgow’s East End brewery
Environmental charity, Keep Scotland Beautiful, has accredited Wellpark Brewery with a Silver National Award for Environmental Excellence. The award acknowledges Tennent’s continued commitment to improving environmental quality and reducing waste at the site.
The accolade also recognises the brewery’s recent zero waste to landfill achievement through improved recycling on site, reusing operational waste for animal feed and recycling grey water.
Keep Scotland Beautiful auditors highlighted the excellent health and safety policies and procedures which were in place, and the high standard of staff training at Wellpark Brewery. The efforts made to bring the history of the building to life, and make links to the local community, were also commended.
The National Award for Environmental Excellence is open to companies and organisations throughout Scotland and acts as a benchmark for corporate environmental performance.
Andrea Pozzi, Managing Director, Tennent Caledonian Breweries said, “Since C&C acquired Tennent’s in 2009, protecting the environment has always been a key priorityfor us.
“We are very pleased to win this award. It recognises the work we are doing to ensure that we protect the environment in which we operate. Protecting the environment is very important to us as in order to continue producing high-quality brands that consumers love we need ingredients, such as our Scottish malted barley and water, from high-quality environments.
“We are also working closely with our community and it is important that we are a positive partner in the local environment. We look forward to continuing to work with Keep Scotland Beautiful".
Derek Robertson, Chief Executive of Keep Scotland Beautiful, said:
“Keep Scotland Beautiful is working closely with businesses and organisations across Scotland, helping them take direct action to address local environmental impact. The National Award for Environmental Excellence provides an exciting opportunity to assess and reward their efforts.
“We are delighted with the high standards demonstrated at the Tennent’s East End site and we look forward to seeing further action being taken in the future. It is important that companies accept their environmental responsibilities and Tennent’s has set the bar high for its sector.”
Across Scotland, over 100 business locations, from shopping centres, leisure and cultural trusts to train stations and ports, have been audited for a National Award for Environmental Excellence and achieved a Gold, Silver or Bronze accreditation.
