Vet Supplies for Students
Veterinary supplies are available to you for purchase with your Horowitz Fund. You will have $300 in your fund for your graduation year so whatever you have left after this purchase can be used towards any vet visits for this year. Please refer to the Horowitz Graduate Assistance Fund letter for details on how to submit invoices.
The following items are for sale while you are in class.
Sentinel is a chewable heartworm preventative. You give it once a month in your dog’s breakfast or dinner. It is used to prevent heartworm disease, hookworm, roundworm and whipworm. It has an ingredient to control flea populations on your dog. It is not to be used as your sole flea and tick preventative but rather it is used in conjunction with products like Vectra and Nexgard. Sentinel is sold in boxes of six pills per package. You will be receiving one free box of sentinel in your going-home packet. If you purchase a box in addition to the free box, you will have a one year supply.
Vectra is a topical flea & tick preventative. It repels and kills fleas, ticks, mosquitoes, lice, mites and sand flies. You should apply this product once a month directly on the dog’s skin, starting at the spot above the tail and going up the dog’s back along the spine to its shoulder blade as you squeeze the tube. Vectra is sold in boxes of 6 tubes per package. To have a year supply of Vectra, you will need to order two boxes.
Nexgard is an oral flea & tick preventative. Nexgard kills fleas and four different types of ticks. It is a beef flavored tablet given once a month. It is okay to administer nexgard in conjunction with sentinel.
We sell an 8 ounce bottle of ear cleaner call Vetquinol. Its helps to clean, deodorize, acidify and dry the ears.
We sell a dental kit that contains a toothbrush, a finger brush and a 2.5 ounce tube of poultry flavored canine toothpaste.
We also sell individual 2.5 ounce tubes of canine toothpaste in poultry flavor.
Prices for these products change frequently. An in-class order form will be provided at the vet supplies lecture and your order will be taken at that time.Orders will be distributed by the class IA. Please keep in mind that these products will need to be packed in your checked luggage.

Going forward if you wish to participate in our mail order program, please note that only the heartworm and flea & tick preventatives will be available for purchase. Dental items and ear cleaner will need to be purchased at either your vet or online at amazon or any pet supply store. If you want to purchase heartworm preventative from us, we will need a copy of a recent heartworm test done at your vet. We ask that you get this test done as part of your dog’s annual exam and submit the results to us to keep on file.
