For each conflict describe the steps people took to resolve that conflict. One will be done for you. You will have to do the other two on your own.

  1. The Mexican government passed seral laws raising taxes in Texas and limiting new settlement there. Many people in Texas thought these laws were unfair.

Texas first tried to settle the conflict peacefully by sending Stephen F. Austin to Mexico to try to convince Mexico’s leaders to change the laws. When those actions did not settle the conflict, however, Texas declared its independence from Mexico.

  1. People in Colorado, New Mexico, Texas , and Mexico all depend on the Rio Grande for irrigation. However, the river bed was sometimes dry in parts of the Rio Grande valley.

  1. The Channel of the Rio Grande moved south after the floods. Land that had been part of Mexico was north of the Rio Grande. People in the United States and Mexico disagreed about who owned that land.
