Workshops offered:

Health Informatics

-This workshop will be facilitated by Angela Espejo. The objectives of this workshop are to provide an overview of health informatics relating to nursing education, practice, and research: How health data is collected, stored, and communicated. How data is processed into health information to support administrative and clinical decisions and how technology supports these processes.

Nursing the Future

-This workshop will be facilitated by Krista Smith, Braden Davie, Katelyn Delahunt, Dylan Brown, & Courtney McCool. The leaders will walk participants through the stages of transition from a student nurse to a Registered Nurse. They will share their poignant and sometimes humorous stories about ‘being new’ in a very established profession. They will encourage participants to ‘anticipate’ what the actual experience of professional role transition entails. The objectives of this workshop are to create strategies that can facilitate a more positive transition for new nurses and help to build productive work environments!

SafeTALK

-The safeTALK workshop will be facilitated by Katelyn Bessette. SafeTALK is a three hour best-practice training of LivingWorks Education that prepares participants to identify individualswith suicidal ideations and connect them to first-aid intervention resources. As a safeTALK-trained suicide alert helper,you will receive a certificate, workbook, wallet card and ID stickers.

CNA Speciality Panel

-The CNA Speciality Panel will include Christine Zywine: Canadian Association of Nurses in Oncology,Jocelyn Reimer-Ken: Canadian Council of Cardiovascular Nurses, Judy Simpson: Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Nurses Group, Brenda Hewitt: Canadian Association of Neonatal Nurses and Mary Eileen MacPhail: Canadian Nursing Informatics. Panel members will discuss their nursing experiences and how this has shaped their career. This will be an interactive workshop between panel members and conference attendees.

Exploring Experiences

-This workshop will be facilitated bythe National collaborating center for determinants of health. This workshop will apply problem-based learning methods to actively involve participants. First, participants will be introduced to the challenge described in the case study, and work together to generate solutions. The details of the case study will be progressively disclosed so that participants have the opportunity to work together on generate strategies and approaches. The iterative process is designed to foster critical thinking and contribute to learning. The conversation will be guided by key questions and focus on supports for intersectoral action, community engagement, and public health leadership to advance health equity.

Leadership Bootcamp

-This workshop will be facilitated by Rachel Bard whom is the CEO of the Canadian Nurses Association. She is a tireless leader in driving forward policy agendas that focus on health human resources, health system renewal and global health and social justice. Through national advocacy and national regulatory policy work she continues to build CNA’s vision for the future of health care. Rachel will be focusing on promoting leadership as students and throughout our careers.
