2017 Scholarship Application and Information
Scholarship Information /The Goodfellow Combined Spouses’ Club (GCSC) is a private volunteer organization serving Goodfellow Air Force Base. The club is offering an annual merit-based scholarship to military spouses and dependents. Awards are awarded for outstanding academic achievement, character, leadership qualities and community involvement. The GCSC will award at least ONE $500 scholarship to a spouse AND at least THREEscholarships todependents ~ High School Seniors or currently enrolled college students (each valued at least $1000 or more).
Judging / Once all COMPLETEpackets are received,the applications will be compiled by the GCSC Scholarship Chair and then given to an impartial judging panel comprised of individuals with strong military and/or academic backgrounds (Military Member, Staff of Howard College /Angelo State University). Panel members must not have any affiliation withany applicants. Packets will be kept anonymous throughout the entire judging process.Eligibility / To apply, applicants must meet ALL of the following criteria:
- Seeking adegree at an accredited college or university or accredited training programin the summer or fall of 2017, or spring of 2018.
- A spouse or dependent childof an active duty, reserve, guard, retired, deceased military memberassociated with GAFB. Awards are granted without regard to military member’s branch/ rank or applicant’s race, gender, ethnicity, religion, or disability.
- High school seniors may attend a private, public, charter, or homeschool.
- Not have received a prior scholarship from Goodfellow Combined Spouses Club.
- Must have resided in the GAFB, TX area (within 40-mile radius) for at least 90 DAYS of 2016-2017 school year.
Deadline & Submission / COMPLETE application packets and DIGITALLY submitted by March 15, 2017.

If difficulty with online submission, please email scholarship chair enough ahead of deadline to allow adequate time to arrange postal or hand delivery.
Notification / Notification of scholarship recipients will be made April2017. Recipients and their families will be invited to Award Ceremony; attendance is highly encouraged.
Forfeiture of Funds / If student who accept an appointment to a military service academy or a full-ride scholarship (to include tuition, fees, books, room and board) OR if student decides not to enroll for eligible semesters, he/she becomes ineligible for this award and must notify the GCSC scholarship committee immediately and forfeit the GCSC scholarship.
Requirements of Funds Distribution / Checks will be sent by August 2017, payable directly to the recipient or to their school.
Proof of registration and institution funding statement for upcoming semester at accredited school must be received BEFORE funds will be disbursed. It is the student’s responsibility to update GCSC if school or address changes. If upcoming semester is not completed, recipient must return all awarded funds; please email proof of completion after semester.

Official Academic Records
- Copies of ALL high school/dual credit/college transcripts
(IFsenior or current college student,must also include report card for any semester not on transcript AND Spring 2017 schedule.)
- Copies of test scores or entrance examinations (TSI, AP, SAT, ACT, etc.)
- Proof of College Acceptance for 2017-2018 (School ID, official acceptance letter, class roster, financial statement…)

Letters of Recommendation
Submitletters of recommendation (at least 2, maximum 5). It is recommended that at least one letter be obtained fromeithera teacher, current/recent employer, unit leadership, Key Spouse, service organization, friend of the family, etc. who can comment on your character, service, and potential for academic success. (For current high school or current college students, at least one letter must be from a current/recent academic core instructor.)
Essay
Write an essay in response to the question below:
Describe your academic and/or career goals and the motivation which led you to this decision. How has being a military dependent/ spouse affected these goals? How has your employment, extracurricular, volunteer, and/or local community activities enhanced your goals?
Your essay will be scored based on content, focus, unity, and organization. The essay must meet the following guidelines: MLA format, typed in 12 pt. Times New Roman, double-spaced, 1-inch margins, one (1)-page minimum/two (2)-page maximum. To ensure anonymity, do not include your name on OR in the essay. As an alternative, please include the last four digits of your SSN in the upper right hand corner of each page.
