LAVA CO-ORDINATOR – POETRY IN MOTION SCHOOLS, COMMUNITY AND THE SEAMUS HEANEY AWARDS PROGRAMME

The Community Arts Partnership wishes to appoint a part–time Co-ordinator for our literature and verbal arts programme (LaVA). The appointment will be made on the basis of a free-lance contract of service, part-time, for approximately 400 hours minimum commitment (£13.30 per hour) for a year; with the possibility of renewal, as always, subject to funding and performance review.

The LaVA programme encompasses Poetry in Motion Schools and Community programmes and the Seamus Heaney Awards – endorsed by the Heaney family, these are the only writing awards in the world that bear the late Nobel Laureate’s name.

Poetry in Motion will involve the appointment and management of poets in residencies in a minimum 30 schools and at least 12 community/other settings. The LaVA Co-ordinator will manage all aspects of developing performance based and written poetry/literary arts outcomes and overseeing the collation and production of anthologies, other printed material, audio anthologies etc produced through a wide and varied range of residencies, events, engagements and submissions.

The Co-ordinator will be required to liaise with teachers, community leaders, funders and of course, new and established poets, facilitators and performers, establishing a coherent, accessible and excellent series of high profile programmes and events on an all year round basis. The role involves managing people, projects, budgets, training and monitoring, evaluating and reporting on all aspects of an ambitious and highly-regarded programme.

Experience of Project Co-ordination in community arts

Excellent organisational skills

Excellent communication skills including verbal and written skills

Team supervision and report writing

Local poetry interest, knowledge and networks

Experience of creative writing or other relevant art form

Job Description

Liaise and manage all poet residencies, programme, awards’ processes

Hiring of poet-facilitators for the Poetry in Motion projects

Overall co-ordination, budgetary control and scheduling of the project and production

Drawing up contracts

Project and financial monitoring and evaluation

Oversee and develop all aspects of the production of anthologies

Champion poetry at grass roots and professional level

Research and develop literary and verbal arts offering from CAP

Manage literary and verbal arts events

Liaise with relevant agencies,

Support fundraising and publicity of the overall project

Any other duties as required

Essential Criteria

An approachable attitude

An ability to work on own initiative

Ability to train and facilitate in group settings

IT skills and social media knowledge and skills

Familiarity with the wider publishing/literary arena in Northern Ireland and elsewhere

Knowledge and understanding of poetry ‘scene’ in Belfast/N Ireland

Demonstrable proof of large scale project management

Demonstrable proof in handling budgets

Desired Criteria

Knowledge of the arts and community arts sector in Northern Ireland

Knowledge of formal education sector

Knowledge of community publishing schemes, as well as ambient, audio and televisual media

Familiarity with the Child Protection Act, Health and Safety as well as section 75 of the NI Act 1998

Excellent contacts within field

Access to personal transport
