Life As We Knew It

To celebrate Teen Read Week and One Book One Community, our library and the Ocean City Free Public Libraryhad Susan Beth Pfeffer as our special guest author on Thursday, October 22. Over 300 people, students, staff, andcommunity members, enjoyed Ms. Pfeffer’s entertaining and informative programs. She presented three sessions during the school day which were attended by classes and a program for our extension school English students and the public at 4:00 p. m. that afternoon.

We extend a special thank you to the Ocean City Free Public Library for sponsoring this event and providing signed copies of the book Life As We Knew It as door prizes! We also thank Mrs. Christine Barnes for scheduling the English classes to attend; Mrs. Ginny Mulford and her students for the beautiful art work; Mrs. Linda Spengler and Mrs. Mary Maguire and their students for baking the delicious treats and Mrs. Cathy Simonini for assisting withthe preparations; Mrs. Patti Workman for attending to our speaker; and, of course, many thanks to our custodial staff, especially Mr. Bob Krayer and Mr. Bob Gannon.

Thank you to all of our staff members, students, and everyone who made this such an informative and memorable event.

Eric Carle Read for the Record Day

was celebrated at the Ocean City High School Library.On October 8, Ms. Vicari and Mrs. Spengler’s Ocean City High School child development students, along with hundreds of thousands of people around the world opened Eric Carle's beloved book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, and read aloud to children in their communities. Our OCHS students read and used props to share the story with the kindergarten classes from the Ocean City Primary School. Read for the Record is an international community literacy initiative sponsored by Jumpstart in partnership with the Pearson Foundation and Phi Delta Kappa, an international education organization.

Best Books for Teens Program On October 22, Mrs. Santoro’s period 3 public speaking students presented the best books that they read as teens. Their book talks featured the following titles: Perfect Chemistry, Perks of Being a Wallflower, Marley and Me, The Pact, Before I Die, The Great Santini, A Million Little Pieces, Gossip Girl, My Sister’s Keeper, The Lovely Bones, Hip Hop All Star Tupac Shakur, A Child Called It, Push, Nineteen Minutes, Merle’s Door , and Freak the Mighty. Come to the OCHS Library and check them out!

Thank you to Mrs. Mulford and her student teacher, Miss Santoro, and their Studio I art students for the cartoon enlargement posters on display in our library!

Thanksgiving Program

Mrs. Spengler’s child development students and Mrs. Santoro’s public speaking students will present an interactive Thanksgiving program for all of the Ocean City Primary School kindergarten students on Thursday, November 19 in the library during periods 3 and 4/5. Happy Thanksgiving!

A gift to the OCHSLibraryMediaCenter is a long lasting gift that can be shared and enjoyed by many students and staff members.

Make a monetary donation and a new book, cd, DVD, or other item will be specially selected and purchased for our collection as a holiday gift, or to honor someone’s achievement (such as graduation or retirement) or birthday, or in memory of a loved one.

A bookplate acknowledging the donor and identifying the occasion and recipient will be added to the library item. A thank you letter will be sent to the donor and a letter will also be sent to the recipient and/or his family to inform him/them about the special gift.
