Christmas Carol Concert
Reading 5
Christmas comes just once a year
With its sleigh bells and reindeer
With the freshly fallen snow
And the fires warm glow
Celebrating with loved ones dear
Being jolly and merry and giving cheer
While many anxious children keep
For old Saint Nick to visit in their sleep
Listening to the choir of carols
With mistletoe, holly and large wine barrels
The glistening baubles and twinkling lights
A tall Christmas tree and all the pretty sights
As young children open their eyes
They yawn; look around, what a surprise!
Small gifts in their stocking
And under the tree, how shocking!
The rest of the family has arrived
To watch us open our presents and see what we find
Then we all tuck in to our turkey lunch
But we must say grace before we munch
The spirit of Christmas comes from the heart
The spirit of Christmas was here from the start
The spirit of Christmas comes not from a new toy
The spirit of Christmas comes from each girl and boy

This Christmas,
I don’t want perfume
(though it would be nice)
I don’t want that dress
(though it’s quite a good price)
I don’t want a new phone
(though it’s the latest fashion)
I don’t want a CD
(though music is my passion)
I don’t want a voucher
(though it would be handy)
I don’t want any chocolate
(though I love my candy)
I don’t want those hair straighteners
(though they do remove the kinks)
I don’t want those shoes
(though they’re a lovely shade of pink)
What I do want however
More than any of the above
Is to spend my Christmas
With the ones I love

Reading 1
This year’s readings are poems written by pupils from Brighouse high. The theme for each poem is the ‘spirit of Christmas’.
The virgin snow that lays on the floor
A dazzling wreath that hangs on the door
The air like a blade of ice pressed on your face
Howls of laughter from all over the place
Tasty looking chocolates in every single shop
Decorate your tree with an angel on top
Christmas shopping, presents to buy
Parties to attend looking smart in black tie
Waking up on the 25th of December
Spending time with family, you’ll always remember
But after that your smile fades away
As you’ll have to wait another year for that very special day

Christmas time is special to me…..
When the snow falls gently on the ground.
When the rustle of the trees makes a hooting sound.
Christmas time is special to me…..
When family and friends gather round a big table to eat.
While you’re in your bed at night and you hear the thudding of Santa’s feet.
Christmas time is special to me…..
When you and your family eat cookies and drink tea.
The day you put the angel on the Christmas tree.
Christmas time is special to me…..
When you hear the pitter-patter of hooves
When you look out of the window and see Santa and the reindeer on the roofs.
This is why Christmas is special to me.

On Christmas morning I am full of glee.
Lots of presents around the tree.
Large ones, small ones, shining bright
Parceled up and wrapped up tight.
Snow is falling on the window pane.
Dropping softly down the icy lane.
Reindeers gliding around the sky.
Above the clouds, way up high.
The family is coming round to eat.
Turkey dinner is a real treat.
With Christmas pudding to end the day.
This sounds delicious I have to say.
Singing, dancing and having fun.
Not stopping until the day is done.
My day is full of joy and pleasure.
With memories that I will always treasure.
