Then these professional development workshops are for you!

You are invited to attend our final training workshop for 2015, a two-part workshop devoted to fiction editing on Saturday 7 November and Saturday 21 November, from 9 am to 5 pm, at Ruth Fairfax House,
89 Gregory Terrace, Spring Hill.

About the course

This two-part course will cover the essential information you need to effectively edit fiction.

Part 1 will discuss the qualities of a structural editor and the fundamentals of structural editing (e.g. structure, theme, characters, flow). Practical exercises will be included. You will also be given hands-on work to do between the two parts of the workshop.

Part 2 will elaborate on Part 1 and will examine, discuss and analyse the edits, as well as look at elements of manuscript assessments, editorial reports and structural reports. Also covered will be effective author letters and practical tips for working in the industry.

About the presenter

Presenter Leonie Tyle is an adaptable professional with highly developed skills in planning, strategic development, analysis, communications and leadership skills. She also enjoys change and challenges.

Leonie’s experience spans more than 30 years in the book industry, with 25 years managing an extensive publishing program. She’s currently working in a publishing partnership with Catherine Bateson in Tyle & Bateson Publishing and doing sessional work at Queensland University of Technology.

She created Woolshed Press, an imprint of Random House Australia, producing a boutique list within a big multinational company. And at University of Queensland Press she developed one of Australia’s finest children’s and young adult publishing lists in both fiction and nonfiction.

In conjunction with Robyn Sheahan-Bright, she established an independent publishing company, Jam Roll Press, and successfully managed its merger with UQP. During this period both publishing programs were shortlisted and won more awards, percentage-wise, on the number of titles than any other Australian publisher.
