Current Events: It’s been an egg-citing 3 days in 1st Grade. Thanks to the many volunteers who came out to hide eggs for our 1st Graders on Tuesday! Also, I want to thank all the parents who showed up to assist with our class party.Hopefully, you’ve not been fooled too many times today! Enjoy having Spring Break tomorrow and Friday.

Language Arts: The children have been working with us to edit their spring paragraphs. Then, they have been drawing a picture to show the signs of spring that they wrote about in their stories.

Math:Although we did some practice with coins, we have been reviewing many of the math skills that we have covered this year with jelly bean activities—estimating, graphing, adding, determining place value, adding, and interpreting our graph results. Then, they wrote a paragraph telling about their graphs. Lastly, they answered questions about their jelly bean graph data.

Social Studies: We read a biography about Ben Franklin on Monday and continued learning about his many inventions. Using the chart of all his contributions and inventions that he gave to us, the children drew and wrote about what they thought was his greatest contribution.

Science:We have been learning about eggs. Looking at a raw egg, we labeled the parts. Then the children had to think about a way to determine if an egg is raw or hard boiled-without opening the egg. By spinning the eggs, we found out that the liquid in the raw egg moves around too much to allow the egg to easily spin, while, the solid, hardboiled egg spins quite easily.
