Section: LIS Downtime and System Maintenance / Subject Title: LIS System Support Staff
Principle/Purpose: To describe the responsible persons to whom significant LIS computer malfunctions are reported.
- The Pathologist-in-Chief, Director of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Director of Microbiology have overall responsibility for the safe operation of the LIS (SCC) including the assurance of quality and integrity of data in the system. Other staff assigned to the support and maintenance of the LIS (SCC) include LIS Officers and LIS key operators from the Rapid Response Laboratory, Biochemistry, Hematopathology, Blood Transfusion Services, Histology, Cytology, Cytogenetics and Microbiology. Medical section heads, charge technologists and laboratory staff alsoreviewoverall LISperformance and make recommendations towards quality improvements to the system.
- Two LIS Officers, an Applications Support specialist and key operators representing each section support the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. Two LIS Officers support the Department of Microbiology. They are fully conversant of the entire LIS (SCC) system. The LIS Officers shared duties include:
- Routine maintenance and support of the LIS (SCC) system.
- System documentation (routine and problematic) of the LIS (SCC).
- Assistance in interfacing laboratory instruments to the LIS (SCC).
- Maintenance of user and security files.
- Training of laboratory staff in the use of the LIS (SCC).
- Liaison between SCC and system users.
- Liaison with HP and Informatics for LIS (SCC) and HIS interface and support issues.
- Recommendation of changes to the LIS (SCC) to increase efficiency.
- Training of LIS key operators.
- Off-hour support of LIS (SCC).
- Daily systems performance and error report monitoring as per SCC LIS Administrators manual.
- The Applications Support Specialist is responsible for:
- Routine maintenance and support of the Cytogenetics software (i.e. PDU and Applied Imaging).
- The LIS key operator's duties include:
- Test Set-up and related functions
- Assistance in interfacing instruments to LIS (SCC)
- Trouble shooting of interface and other LIS (SCC) related problems.
- Unix Technical Support and staff of HP provide support and service for the LIS hardware including routine backup.
