Meeting 2889
Amanda Wall – Australian Red Cross
Amanda is the marketing and development Manager for Red Cross and is involved with Project Defib. Every year an alarming number of sudden Cardiac Arrests occur in sporting clubs and schools.
Project Defib is a national program brought to the community byRed Cross Training Services– the national training arm of Australian Red Cross. This program will enable every sporting club in Australia access to the latest Lifeline VIEW Defibrillator to assist in reducing the number of fatalities resulting from Cardiac Arrest.
The program will enable every club to receive a grant which will provide a comprehensive Defibrillator package at a subsidised cost.
Amanda demonstrated the Defibrillator to the club, as the club is looking at a project involving the donation of some to sporting clubs in the area.

KEITH EDWARD WALTER 29/8/1933 - 1/7/2014
Keith Walter made an extraordinary contribution to the communities in which he lived both within and outside of Rotary for well over 50 years.
He was a successful businessman, CEO and founder of Kewco Bathroom Products, situated on Brighton Road at Somerton Park. This remains a family owned and operated business with his son Grant the current CEO.
Keith’s contributions to Rotary were many and varied, but he will always be remembered for “Keith’s Numbers Game”, the weekly fundraising raffle which he organised and personally contributed prizes to. He was a strong supporter of the Rotary Book Exchange, the club’s BBQ trailer, and the Rotaract Club of Edwardstown when his children were teenagers.
Outside Rotary he had very strong involvement in the Anglican Church, The SA Bonsai Society, Cumberland Park Soccer Club, Colonel Light West Tennis Club and his children’s schools.
He provided generous and extensive commitment to these activities with a quiet and determined, yet modest approach. Keith was never a person who stood back and waited for it to happen. He made it happen.
With these characteristics in mind, the Rotary Club of Edwardstown are looking to honour this contribution by recognising a local hard working, but unrecognised community volunteer.
Who are we looking for?
The awardee will be someone who has been involved in the community for some considerable time either in an official capacity or as a hard working conscientious volunteer. We are looking for an unsung hero who has not previously been officially recognised with a prestigious award. Please give thought to people you know who may fall into this category. The success of this award is your responsibility.
Current and former Rotarians are not eligible. Nominations will be held in confidence and a selection panel will review all nominees. Three finalists will be selected and interviewed, and the winner will be announced at the club’s annual Change Over Dinner on June 23rd. The winner will be presented with a plaque and a $100 voucher, and the club will make an appropriate donation to one of Rotary’s funds in honour of our late Rotarian Keith Walter. Nominations close 8th May, 2015
Nomination forms are available at www.edwardstownrotary.org
