Notes on WebAssign
PHY-2048/9 Physics for Scientists & Engineers I/II
J. B. Bindell
You need to purchase a WebAssign login either from the bookstore or from the WebAssign website (with credit card).
For your first contact with WebAssign, go to:
- Follow the guides to purchase a registration or to Login. The left side of the page has a scroll down menu that should get you where you need to get.
- Be sure to bookmark the final login screen because you will be using it quite a bit (I hope).
Your login ID is your PIN without the leading “0” and without any letters from your first name. If that doesn’t work, try it WITH a leading “0” if your PID starts with a “0” after the letter.
Your password has been set to “ihatephysics”. After a successful login, be sure to change your password to something else to protect the privacy of your account.
- If “ihatephysics” doesn’t work and you have previously used WebAssign, your old password will probably still work.
Take note of the COMMUNICATION section of the WebAssign site, There are a number of things that you can do with this section that might be helpful:
- You can email your instructor directly from WebAssign. Normal email still works.
- You can request extensions for a homework assignment. Be sure to include a valid reason or it will not be granted.
- You can set up areas where you can discuss problems with other students before you input your solutions. Collaborating with other students in solving homework problems is a great way to learn as well as to help your fellow students. Take advantage of this feature.
Be careful to note that WebAssign requires three significant figures in its answers.
Consult the online manual for WebAssign for more details on this as well as algebraic input when it is required.
Except for short answer type questions, you will be given 5 opportunities to submit an answer to a particular question. You may occasionally request additional submissions, again, with good reason.
NOTE:
I always answer emails within a day or so of when you send them. It is helpful is you request extensions, etc. directly through WebAssign rather than through normal email. I can respond faster that way and am less likely to forget your request.
Another Note: I will usually post any PowerPoint slides that I use on my website:
