ANNOUNCEMENTS/INFORMATION

Executive Council/BOT update
(Melissa Wargo) / Melissa Wargo provided information on University Day on June 14th for the UNC system. Representatives from every institution come to greet and meet with legislators about our university initiatives.
Normally, the schedule begins in the morning around 8:30 with a UNC system program followed by meetings with individuals. In conjunction with ASU and UNC-A, we are hosting a lunch at 11:30-12:30 inviting all western members of the legislature and we council them on our concerns and issues while we eat. We had good turnout for this event last year. We need good representation - please let Melissa know if you plan to attend. We also expect the BOG to join this lunch.
If you would like to join Melissa for breakfast at The Dailey Planet at 7:45, and then walk together to the program. Please let Melissa know by noon this Friday if you plan to attend.
Dean of the Graduate School and Research
(Carol Burton) / Carol Burton acknowledged and congratulated Brian Kloeppel being named as permanent dean of the Graduate School and Research.
Director of Assessment Search
(Tim Metz) / The process is well under way regarding search for a new Director of Assessment with an excellent pool of candidates.
Director of Academic Resources and Operations Search
(Carol Burton) / Carol is chairing this search with the Provost Executive Council as search committee. We have a pool of 20+ candidates at this point. We are on a very aggressive timeline.
25 Live Administrator
(Tim Metz) / Our new 25 Live Administrator is Paul Hammer who interned in our office prior to being selected for this position.
Coulter Faculty Commons Director Search
(Brandon Schwab) / We are bringing candidates to campus next week for interviews.

DISCUSSION

Ricardo Nazario-Colon, Chief Diversity Officer (All) / Provost Council welcomed Ricardo Nazario-Colon, new Chief Diversity Officer. Ricardo is temporarily in Greg Hodges old office with the plan of being in his permanent office, HFR 521 shortly. Ricardo offered his assistance to colleges in any role they seen as pertinent. Ricardo is familiarizing himself with events from this last spring and will move forward with initiatives to continue to improve campus climate.
HAVEN training for new incoming graduate students
(Brian Kloeppel) / Brian distributed a handout regarding this topic. Brian informed the council this training in required as part of the Violence Against Women Act. GRS was experiencing several challenges regarding this training. With the help of Kevin Koett and Walter Turner these issues have been addressed. We will have Kevin and Walter join a future PC meeting to further talk about this issue.
Annual Assessment Reports (Tim Metz) / We have to put a lot of work into our Institutional Effectiveness standard - this is the area in which we have challenges. We are not in an ideal situation with this particular standard and this could become a compliance issue for us. We are missing a lot of content and have significant gaps in some of our reports. Please prime your directors and other folks to be prepared to responsive the last two weeks of July and the first two weeks of August to address the compliance issues we have with this particular standard.
Program Fees in Summer
(Lowell Davis) / An assessment of summer fees has been conducted. We have noted that fees are being charged to students for facilities their major does not utilize. Fees will be reviewed and we will determine for summer students with a particular major if a program fee should be assessed. We are doing this only for first time freshman who may likely change their major, etc. The council is in support of waiving fees for students in Catamount Gap and ASP.
Enrollment Update
(Tim Metz) / We are trying to get a better handle on actual enrollment for fall, rather than focusing on deposits. We are reviewing past year’s deposits and the melt that occurred. At this point that leads us to project about 1900 freshman. Tim distributed handouts regarding enrollment and reviewed with the council. Discussion ensued.
SACSCOC Reaffirmation
(Tim Metz) / Tim covered this area in agenda item #3, Annual Assessment reports. Arthur Salido is searching for a new Director of the QEP initiative which includes a course release per term. If you have recommendations, please forward those to Arthur.
Agenda items for future PC meetings
(All) / The only item put forth at this time is further discussion regarding HAVEN training including Kevin Koett and Walter Turner.
