1. McCullough v. Maryland –A.) SC ruled that states could not create laws (taxes) that would overrule federal laws (like the US Bank).
B.) This created a national standard that would apply to all states, and thus would be applied the same to Northern, Southern or Western States. / 2. Missouri Compromise
a.) Congress allows two new states into the Union, Missouri as a slave, and Maine as a free state. (also creates a border which no new states can be slave admitted North of 36º30)
b.) this would divide the nation, with a “dividing line” between Slave v. Free states, even though it kept the balance in representation in Congress.
