We understand that the Rural Services Committee has asked Regional District staff to undertake further work on the recommendations from Mr. Mac Fraser regarding Savary Island transportation issues. ASIC supports this decision and looks forward to the opportunity to provide comments and assistance when that work is complete.

ASIC is, however, concerned with regard to the suggested option that the Regional District abandon the tenure for the barge landing site. ASIC Directors believe that the barge landing site is an integeral service and part of the transportation network for all of Savary Island. We believe that the Regional District must retain the tenure for the landing site and is best positioned to establish operational requirements to address the needs of all property owners on Savary Island.
