Trip Fact Sheet
Departure – Thursday, June 1
-- Buses leave from middle school by9:30 am. Everyone needs to be here by 9:00. If you need to be dropped off at any time before 9:00, that's ok - there will be teachers here. Report to the 8th grade hall when you arrive with your bags.
-- Please bring only one piece of baggage to stow underneath the bus. A second small bag can be “carried-on.”
-- Any required, non-self administered medicine for the trip as indicated by the previous medical release form must be checked in with Ms. Doyle on or beforeThursday morning, if it has not already been checked in with the nurse’s office. No medicine, including Advil/Tylenol, can be taken without a medical release form.
-- Lunch and dinner are provided on Thursday, as is breakfast on Friday. Students will need money for lunch and dinner on Friday, and might require/desire money for snacks/souvenirs/arcade games on Thursday at the Pamplin Center and/or the bowling alley and on Friday at Busch Gardens. The amount to bring depends on how much the student plans to spend – that’s helpful, huh? – but the only needed (as opposed to desired) spending would be on meals at Busch Gardens. Busch Gardens isn’t cheap, but folks should be able to eat lunch and dinner there for $25 or so.
--The accompanying faculty for the trip will be Andrew Chiaraviglio, Ellen Doyle, Kristin Lane, Sara Mizelle,Jeff Nesbitt, Jasmine Powell, Barry Rochelle, Meredith Stewart, and David Snively.
Dress Code
Cary Academy dress code will generally apply, in the sense that students must look presentable, especially at the Pamplin Historical Park. Shirts may be kept untucked and belts may not be needed. (Of course, students may tuck shirts in if desired.) Casual clothing, including reasonable athletic gear, will be allowed. No bathing suits will be needed – or allowed. Sunscreen and a hat are strongly recommended.
What to Bring
In terms of clothing, students will need to have something to wear Thursday, Thursday night, and Friday at Busch Gardens. (Socks will be needed for the bowling alley.) A change of clothes for the ride home, particularly if water rides are ridden late, might be a good idea. Notes on dress code above should be consulted for what is appropriate. We will be staying in a hotel overnight so there will be no need to bring bedding, etc, though folks may want to bring a pillow for the bus.
In terms of non-clothing items, a book to read, headphones to listen to, cards or small games to play, etc. might be worthwhile for the bus ride and hotel room. Snacks and/or water bottles might also be a good idea. Sunscreen is likely a must for both the Pamplin Center and Busch Gardens.
Students may bring cell phones in case they need to contact someone while at Busch Gardens, or in case they want to touch base with home once or twice during the trip. Students should not be using cell phones at the Pamplin Historical Park, nor should they be using them at the hotel for reasons other than contacting home. At no time should cell phones become a distraction. If they do, then they might need to be held by teachers till the end of the trip.Tablets and/or computers should not be brought along on the trip.
Return to Cary Academy – Friday, June 2
-- We will be leaving Busch Gardens at 5:45.
-- There will be one brief stop on the way home – restrooms and stretching, not a meal.
-- Estimated time of arrival is 9:30. (Students calling home will likely occur to give confirmation/warning of delays)
