Attendance & Performance:

Mr. Pierce treats this class like a work place as well as an academic classroom. Your attitude, creative

ideas, problem solving techniques, reliability, discipline, attendance and teamwork will be given as much

weight towards your final grade as completion of your course work.

Students are responsible for topics covered in missed classes. Missed class notes, handouts

or other info should be obtained from classmates or from Mr. Pierce.

Absences over 5 will lower your grade one level. (e.g. B+ to a B)

Technical theatre production is performed by a large, interdependent team of creative and highly trained

people working together. Please come prepared with a willingness to be part of the team!

(Continued on reverse.)

Class Rules:

● Gum, food & beverages are not allowed in the theatres.

● Please come to "work" prepared and organized for the days activities.

● Tardiness is not tolerated. Time missed will be added to your "lab" time.

● No open toed shoes are allowed in this environment.

Students failing to wear appropriate shoes will be sent to their administrator’s office and will be considered an unexcused absence.

● Loose clothing will be unsafe when we operate equipment and power tools.

● Please respect your classmates, teacher, text books, tools, equipment and the theatres.

● Please pay attention when operating dangerous or expensive equipment.

● When in doubt always ask!!! Guessing could be dangerous. Be safe!!!

Fun Activities & Fieldtrips:

● We will be doing some fundraising to pay for our fieldtrips and other supplies.

● We will be touring other facilities in our area – PCPA, Cuesta PAC, etc. Permission slips and more info will be handed out later. Parental support will be needed for transportation.

● Students will complete 40 hours of "lab" time which accounts for a substantial portion of your grade. Lab time will consist of crewing (operating lights, sound, props, etc.) certain shows or assisting in the pre/post production aspects of Clark Center Professional touring shows outside of normal class time. (e.g.- after school or on weekends)

● One goal of the class is to train new technicians, thereby giving some students a paid opportunity to gain professional experience working in the Clark Center.

● It is important for professionals to evaluate their colleagues' work. Often ideas or solutions to problems are inspired from viewing other shows. Students will need to attend and write reviews for 2 shows per semester. These reviews may include the Drama Department's productions and will include other productions at the Clark Center. Teacher approval of shows is required.

● At the end of the year, we will be going on a special fieldtrip. This special fieldtrip is a privilege and not a right. All school and district policies regarding grades and participation allowances will be followed. You must also have a grade of C or better in this class to participate.

● Also at the end of the year, students will be required to work as technicians on the AG Drama musical in the big theatre. This participation is mandatory and will be done in lieu of a comprehensive final.

● Please have a great time with this class!
