JOB DESCRIPTION

Position: Warehouse Operative (Nightshift)

Department: Operations

Reports to: Operations Supervisors

Hours: 37.5 p.w. Sunday – Thursday nightshift

JOB SUMMARY:

To assist Bookpoint Ltd in its goal of being an excellent service provider to customers and publishers and to continually improve and consistently review working practices in line with Company policy.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

·  Complete duties in line with daily/monthly targets, organisational objectives and KPIs.

·  Listed below are some examples of Warehouse Operative duties. This list is not exhaustive or exclusive:

o  Manual handling at a variety of levels

o  Putting books into various sized boxes/ totes using a voice system

o  Putting small book order through a cardboard (singles machine) to be packaged

o  Using the tape gun to seal boxes

o  Picking books from shelves at all levels

o  Replenishing machines with cardboard/ plastic as required

o  Taking stock off pallets from ground level

o  Putting stock onto pallets at ground level

o  Taking stock off machines and putting onto conveyor/ designated carrier area

o  Moving pallets with manual or electric trucks

o  Filling boxes (void filling) once books are in them

o  Filing paperwork and sorting into shelves/ boxes at all levels

o  Cleaning the warehouse as and when required including the dusting of book shelves

o  Using a computer to check orders for processing

o  Storing plastic tote boxes in the warehouse

o  Using the strapping machines to seal cartons/ boxes

o  Replenishing cardboard and plastic as well as the glue tanks

o  Fork-lift truck driving (mainly in bulk area)

·  Working as part of the Operations team and communicating effectively with line managers and fellow workers.

·  Ensure the total quality of the operational functions.

·  Proactively share knowledge and experience with fellow workers to enable tasks to be carried out to the required standards.

·  Involved in Six Sigma initiatives and Operations projects (BITE).

·  Ensure the highest standards of housekeeping are maintained.

·  Effectively undertake and complete specific tasks as requested ensuring accuracy and efficiency.

·  Maintain all Mechanical Handling Equipment (MHE) in a safe working condition and keep accurate records of these checks.

·  Ensure punctuality, full attendance and suitable appearance at all times.

General

·  Ensure Quality, Health and Safety and Environmental standards and all related company policies are adhered to, raising any issues to the relevant parties as appropriate.

·  Take reasonable care for your own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by what you do or what you fail to do.

·  Any other duties as may be reasonably requested in line with the job role.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

Essential Factors / Desirable Factors
Knowledge, Experience & Qualifications
·  Good communication skills and able to work with people at all levels.
·  Understanding of the importance of health and safety in the workplace.
·  Experience of working as part of a busy team.
·  Experience of manual handling.
·  Demonstrate a good understanding of both spoken and written English. / Knowledge, Experience & Qualifications
·  Proven experience of working in a warehouse environment.
·  Good, clean driving licence.
·  Qualifications relating to a warehouse environment e.g. manual handling training, CILT /NVQs etc.
·  H&S/ First Aid training, further truck driver training/experience.
·  Hold a current truck license, VNA truck preferable.
