Constitution of the Model United Nations Club
Article I – Name
Section 1 – The name of this club or organization shall be “Model United Nations." The acronym “MUN” may be used in its place.
Article II – Purpose/Mission Statement
Section 1 – The MUN club engages in an authentic simulation of the United Nations system by learning about the UN system, the skills of debate, compromise, conflict resolution and negotiation. MUN team members have fun learning about the workings of world diplomacy through the lens of a Biblical worldview and apply them to current events.
Section 2- The club will strive to embody Berean’s core values: Christ-honoring, Bible-Centered, Service-Related, Excellence-Driven, and Future-Orientated.
Section 3 – Model United Nations shall abide by the Berean student handbook and any other Berean Christian High School policies. The Bible will be used as the ultimate authority in all club activities(2 Timothy 3:16).
Article III – Affiliations
Section 1 – This club is affiliated with Berean Christian High School and participates in both Contra Costa County and East Bay model UN tournaments.
Article IV – Membership
Section 1 –Berean Christian High School students must comprise 100% of the student club.
Section 2 – Students, who choose to participate, need to maintain a GPA of 3.0. In addition, students are expected to faithfully attend meetings and notify club officers of planned or unplanned absences.
Section 3 – Membership, in this club, is open to all meeting the above criteria, irrespective of race, color, gender, and year of graduation.
Article V – Officers
Section 1 – The officers of this club shall be: Secretary-General (equivalent to a team captain), Deputy Secretary-General (senior member), and Under Secretary General (senior member).
Section 2 – Members must have been a member of the club for at least one calendar year to be appointed as Secretary General. The advisor for the MUN has the authority to appoint or remove club officers.
Article VI – Meetings
Section 1 – Regular meetings of this club shall be held weekly. Members will convene every Wednesday from 2:45-4:00. The advisor or club officers have the authority to call a meeting. The Secretary General shall notify members of a cancelled meeting, via e-mail, no later than two school days in advance of the meeting.
Section 2 – Quorum shall consist of 25% of the members.A quorum is defined as the number or percentage of the total membership that must be present at a meeting in order to conduct the business of the club.
Article VII– Advisors
Section 1 – There shall be at least one full time Berean faculty or staff advisor who shall serve as an advisor to the club.
Section 2- The advisor is responsible for assisting students in their endeavor to prepare for their roles in tournaments, giving guidance to various members, and ensuring the safety of the members.
Article VIII – Finances
Section 1 – Members shall pay dues that are equal to the tournament fees and transportation cost. These fees will be billed to the student’s account upon the enrollment of said student in a tournament. The advisor reserves the right to permit or forbid participation in various tournaments.
Section 2- Members are responsible for bringing their own binders and writing utensils.
