How to Mist

There are several ways to mist an image and make a tube. In this tutorial, I am going to show you two different ways.

  1. Open PSP, go to File – Open and open the lighthouse image
  1. Promote the background to layer. Go to Layers – Promote Background Layer

  1. On your toolbar – click on the freehand selection tool

  1. Use these settings

  1. With your left mouse key held down, draw the line around the image you want for
    a tube. You do not have to be exact with this.

  1. When you have the area you like – release the mouse button

  1. You will see “ants” marching around – go to Selections – Invert

  1. The “ants” will move with the middle of the image

  1. Hit the delete key once.

  1. We just need to save this as a psp image. Go to File – Save As – use the drop
    down menu and select PSP Image

  1. Click on the Options Button

  1. Use my settings and Save as a PSP5 Compatible. This will allow the tube to be
    opened in any version of PSP.

    Page 2 – Another Way to Mist

1. If you have closed PSP, open PSP and open the same image that we used in our first
way to mist.

2. With the image open, go to Layers – Promote to Background Layer

3. Choose the Selection Tool - Image 12
Under the tool options, you will see lots of different shapes you can use. For this one,
I picked Rounded Rectangle and a feather of 30.

4. With the Rectangle picked, holding the left mouse button, surround the image as close

as you would like.

5. When you release the mouse button, the rectangle will expand

6. You will see “marching ants’. Hit the Control X to cut the image. Your image
should look like this

7. Hit the Control and V keys – you now have pasted your new image.

8. Go to File – Save As – use the drop down menu and select PSP Image

9. Click on the Options Button

10. Use my settings and Save as a PSP5 Compatible. This will allow the tube to be
opened in any version of PSP.
