R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to recognize April 6, 1999, as Pfizer Legislative Day at the State Capitol; and
WHEREAS, Pfizer, Inc., is a research based pharmaceutical and health care products manufacturer; this year marks the company's 150th anniversary, and through the years it has grown and prospered, now annually generating approximately $13 billion in sales and allocating more than $2 billion for research and development of new medicinal therapies; and
WHEREAS, In addition to being responsible for such important drugs as Norvasc, Procardia, Zoloft, Zithromax, Trovan, Diflucan, and Zyrtec, Pfizer also markets the three most successfully launched pharmaceutical products in history, Viagra, Celebrex, and Lipitor; current drug candidates in development offer potential treatments for cancer, diabetes, osteoporosis, schizophrenia, and migraine; and
WHEREAS, This respected enterprise was recognized by Forbes magazine as the Company of the Year, and for two consecutive years it was the top rated pharmaceutical company by Fortune magazine; Pfizer has also been listed by American Benefactor magazine as one of the most generous companies in the United States, donating more than $81 million worth of pharmaceuticals in 1997; and
WHEREAS, Pfizer has given generously in Texas, donating more than $9.4 million in pharmaceutical products through prescription assistance programs in 1998 alone and in excess of 400,000 prescriptions since 1993; last year Pfizer gave roughly $358,000 in cash grants to educational and charitable interests and more than $100 million worth of pharmaceutical products to physicians for dispensation to patients with severely limited financial resources; and

WHEREAS, Pfizer, Inc., is truly a philanthropic company that has significantly improved the quality of life for many citizens of the Lone Star State, and it is most deserving of special recognition at this time; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas Legislature hereby recognize April 6, 1999, as Pfizer Legislative Day at the State Capitol and extend to the members of the Pfizer delegation sincere best wishes for an enjoyable visit to the State Capitol.
