Hello Mumma researchers, cousins, family and friends -

Mumma Bible Needs a Home!
Sorry for the intrusion again so quickly, but I received a message from Tracy St. Claire and thought it needed immediate sharing.
Tracy has found a niche of locating and buying old bibles at auctions, etc. She then tries to find a direct descendant of the original owner of the bible and is willing to sell it to them at her cost. Wow! What a generous and thoughtful thing to do. Apparently she found a bible of one of her ancestors on an auction and decided to do this as a service. I am impressed with her generosity of time and effort.
Tracy found a MUMMA bible on E-Bay and bought it. The bible that belonged to Isaac Mumma [1182], one of Jacob Mumma's descendants. The line of descent is as follows.
Jacob Mumma (immigrant)
\--Jacob Mumma [~1715-1791]
\--Johannes "John" Mumma [1736-1816]
\--Christian Mumma [1783-1855]
\--Isaac Mumma [1824-1887]
The bible contains dates which were not in the database, so it has proved to be a valuable genealogical source. I am entering the data. It would appear the entries were initially entered by Isaac himself and later the bible was in the possession of his youngest daughter, Helen Opal Mumma. She died in 1951. She married a Wickersham and possibly the bible was passed down to one of her daughters. Obviously, its sentimental value decreased to nothing and went on the auction block.
You can view the bible at Tracy St. Claire's web page. The address is:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~allister/mumma.html There are some great pictures of the bible, the genealogical pages, and a lock of hair. Even if you aren't interested in this bible, the pages are worth a look. I will be posting this bible in the Archives of my web site.
Tracy's desire is to get the bible in the hands of one of Isaac's descendants. Someone with the MUMMA surname is most desirable so it won't be placed in another auction some day. If no direct descendants can be found, she will sell it to someone on a collateral line. If you have interest, contact her directly. I checked the database and found we do have some MUMMA surname descendants of Isaac's brother.
I really appreciate Tracy's efforts and lets all try to help her. I checked Isaac's descendant's list and found the following descendants of him that still carry the MUMMA surname. If you know any of these people, it might me nice to contact them and tell them about the bible. I believe she told me the bible cost her $40 including shipping. She will sell to a descendant of Issac Mumma for that price, plus shipping of $8. That is a real bargain for a family heirloom.
Thanks....Doug
