GBRC Board Meeting Minutes

February 18, 2016

7:00 PM at Village Grille

Attendees: Sarah Nelson, Jerry Feldhausen, Peter Johnson, Rob Hampton, Jill Barlament, Mike LaMere, Bruce Juppe, Celia LaTour, and Sheila Ward-Bilty.

Minutes Approved

Motion to approve the minutes from last meeting was made by Mike LaMere, and seconded by Jerry Feldhausen. Upon vote, motion carried.

Prevea Payment

Mike received the GBRC bill today for $1,000 for Prevea, which will be paid. Thank you, Mike!

Scholarships

Scholarship info was sent to Brown County high schools. Applications are due back to us in April when a committee of three will review the applications and choose the scholarship recipients.

Membership

We had 223 members as of the end of January, which is down a bit from 2015, and up from 2014. Income from memberships is $385 so far this year. 8 new members this year and 5 renewals.

Suggestion was made to add a question to the membership form asking how the person heard about GBRC. Rob will add that to the on-line form.

This is a slow time of year for renewals, through approximately May. For example, in February, only 4 memberships are up for renewal. Membership cards are on #531. If you renew, you keep your same membership number.

Events

Rob said that the bonfire last Tuesday was a nice event with 15-20 people. There was a 4-mile fun run near Sportsmen’s, then a huge bonfire with pallets. Had food/chili.

There seems to be two Facebook groups for Green Bay Running Club. One is our official one; the other may be a personal one. Peter will look into it.

Barkhausen snowshoe event last Saturday was put on by Gary Princl. Had smores, etc. Then the group went to Townline Pub afterwards.

Rob will follow up with Bellin about being a silver sponsor. He will also follow up with Christine Wolf on talking to the GBRC. If she’s interested and available, could do a presentation in March.

Group talked about having a panel discussion – maybe in September – with a diverse panel: beginner to elite, medical, high school coach (Jerry), etc. We could create some questions to get things going, then other topics/questions/discussions would come up. We could open it up to Green Bay Multisport or Tri, maybe have myTeam Triumph or Girls on the Run coaches. Parents often have questions about how much/how far their kids should be running. Rob will talk to Nate Vandervest at Bellin, and Mike LaMere can help with contacts as well. Could call it “Running the Lifespan” or something similar.

Trail Relay

Relay is currently in a holding pattern. Tentative date is September 24th. Per Bruce, we are waiting for approval on the course. Nothing concrete, but we are still first in line for that date.

Relay still needs a name. Bruce suggested “Relay by the Bay Trail Run”. He is soliciting ideas for a logo which would capture the location. Bruce had an idea with a course picture and we could have GBRC logo in the middle.

Gloves for $1.25 each could be one of the giveaways with race logo on them. Nice for a fall run. Long sleeved shirt would be good for fall. Jerry will get Bruce some catalog info on where he can order.

We will need to set up a registration page in the near future when we have the race name, date, and cost. It would be nice to go live on April 1st. Bruce will come up with some numbers. The hope was to keep the entry fee at $40 or less, but that might not be enough if there are electronic registration fees, member discounts, etc. There should be an increase in price towards the end of the sign up period (pay more if they didn’t sign up early).

Marketing: How much to advertise in “Running in the USA”? We could display info at our booth for Cellcom. The GBRC Facebook page reaches about 1000 people. Twitter is a possibility.

Think about race logo and name. Get your ideas to Bruce.

Holiday Party

Should we move the party to early December or to January? Seems nice where it is (near Christmas), then we kick off the new year with Cellcom training.

Saturday Morning Runs

Keeping Saturday runs at the same place every time makes it easier for people, so they know where and when to meet. Other random runs can be held on different nights and at various places. Let people know that not all of the Saturday runners are fast; we have slower runners, walkers, etc.
If someone doesn’t want to run alone, we need a way to partner them up. Maybe when the group goes around introducing themselves before the start of a Saturday run, we could see if anyone needs a running buddy.

Run Away Expo

Can we get a table at the Run Away Expo? We should ask for next year.
