The Intermountain Region of the National Park Service is embarking on a recruitment effort to fill positions for an academy class at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, Georgia. This is a unique opportunity to be a park ranger.

Advertisement of the positions on USAjobs is expected between mid-July and the end of August, 2008.

This class of new US Park Rangers will fill approximately twenty jobs in five parks located in Arizona and Texas: Amistad National Recreation Area (TX), Big Bend National Park (TX), Coronado National Memorial (AZ), Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument (AZ), and Padre Island National Seashore (TX).

Applicants will select preferred location(s); multiple sites may be selected.

THE HIRING PROCESS

Applications will only be accepted through the USAjobs announcement during the open period.

Applications are screened and examined to ensure required qualifications have been met.

IF QUALIFIED:

Some applicants will be asked to attend interviews in person. These interviews will be conducted at one location in Texas and one in Arizona. Arrangements and costs for travel and lodging to these sites will be at the applicants’ expense. Interviews will consist of a fitness test and oral board.

FITNESS TEST: Applicants will be required to bring a physicians consent form (on the government provided form) from their doctor allowing participation. The fitness portion of the interview consists of the following Physical Efficiency Battery (PEB) standards:

Body Weight Pushed Standard - Muscular strength determined with ONE maximal repetition chest press. Applicant will have five (5) attempts

Trunk Flexion Standards - Flexibility determined by seated forward flexion (sit and reach) evaluation. Applicant will have two (2) attempts

Agility Run Standards - Agility measured by negotiating a timed obstacle course (Illinois agility course). Applicant will have two (2) attempts

1.5 Mile Run Standard - Cardiovascular endurance measured with a timed 1.5 mile walk/run. Applicant will have one (1) attempt

ORAL BOARD: Applicants will participate in an oral interview by a panel of United States Park Ranger Supervisors, who will review the applicants’ information.

Law enforcement trainees must also satisfactorily complete the prescribed training required for recruits after appointment. The training consists of 32 weeks at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, GA and a field training program in a park other than your duty station.

New law enforcement park rangers must also satisfactorily complete a probationary period of one (1) year

Select the second tab from the left, “My USAJOBS”

Click on “Create Account”

Enter information to create an account.

Once an account has been established, click on “My Job Search Agent” to create a new search agent.

Select the job location as TX and AZ by using the control button and selecting both states. Or select specific sites in either TX or AZ only. Each time the search is narrowed, it will limit or reduce the number of options and job notifications received.
