Job Title: Fundraiser

Location: Leamington Spa covering Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire

Accountable to: The Trustee Board of WAYC

Line Manager: The Fundraiser

Accountable for: Any volunteers involved in the work

AIMS OF WAYC

WAYC is a Registered Charity number 1056035 and a Company Limited by Guarantee number 3201917. We work to “inspire young people” by:

1.  Developing and delivering imaginative, inspirational and quality youth work programmes.

2.  Developing and delivering training programmes.

3.  Improving the quality of youth service provision to young people

4.  Working in quality partnerships with other organisations.

1.  KEY TASKS

THE MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ARE

A) INCOME GENERATION

1.  Support and implement a fundraising strategy to raise sufficient monies to enable WAYC to undertake its work and fully utilise staff skills and resources.

2.  Develop WAYC’s relationship with funders and supporters to maximise short- and long-term income from individual and business supporters.

3.  Maintain regular and relevant communication with supporters, making use of appropriate marketing tools (such as newsletters and social media).

4.  Co-ordinate, manage and expand the WAYC fundraising events programme to increase net income for our work.

5.  Give advice to and support our affiliated Youth Club network with funding applications, such as Awards for All, which they can use to buy in WAYC services.

6.  Ensure high quality reports are submitted to funders on time.

7.  To determine the needs and requirements of funders and using this information to develop and produce successful funding approaches tailored to their needs.

8.  Keep up-to-date and accurate information on supporters and funders on Google docs, VC Connect database and manual files.

9.  To develop and produce in conjunction with the other staff, high quality targeted approaches to funders in support of WAYC’s existing and planned work programme.

10. To maintain an informed overview of the funding opportunities presented by funders and to maintain up-to-date knowledge about funding trends and techniques.

11. Ensure that relevant information is communicated to other staff, including updates on funding.

B)  MARKETING

1.  Develop and implement WAYC’s marketing strategy.

2.  Promote our work to develop new supporters using relevant marketing tools. including social media (twitter, our website www.wayc.org.uk and Facebook).

3.  Establish the correct mix and frequency of communications to existing and potential donors.

4.  Work with staff to ensure a regular stream of press releases and tweets are issued and media enquiries are managed in a timely manner.

5.  Design and distribute promotional materials.

C)  OTHER DUTIES WILL INCLUDE

All staff are expected to follow agreed policies and procedures, attend meetings as required and carry out any additional tasks as requested by the Chief Executive.

3. CONDITIONS OF SERVICE

1 The post is a full time post and the worker is expected to work 37 ½ hours a week which can be worked flexibly. The salary attributable to the post is level G stage 1 – 7: £22,362 - £25,933. for an Institute of Fundraising Diploma qualified worker or salary grade F £21,216 - £24,604 for an unqualified worker. (Support would be given to achieve the Institute of Fundraising diploma). We normally appoint at level 1 on the scale.

2 The worker must be able to demonstrate the ability to work in a wide range of geographical locations. WAYC owns one car for staff to use on business. When this is not available then approved travelling expenses necessarily incurred in exercising the duties of the post will be reimbursed.

3 Pension Scheme: WAYC pays 3% pension contribution and will match your pension contribution up to 8 % of your Basic salary. WAYC currently offers a stakeholder pension scheme with Scottish Widows.

4 WAYC has its own Terms and Conditions of Employment. This includes Grievance and Disciplinary Procedures.

5 The nature of the work is flexible but will necessitate an occasional commitment to evening and weekend work.

6 The holiday entitlement is 25 days as well as Public Holidays plus two WAYC days at Christmas. For each year of service the holiday entitlement rises by a day up to a maximum of five days extra. Holidays must be agreed in advance with the Chief Executive.

5. MONITORING AND EVALUATION

The Grants and Trusts Fundraiser will be the line manager offering induction, managerial supervision, appraisal and support.

The Board of Trustees has responsibility for the employment of staff and for ensuring that the work is undertaken according to the job description. They meet five times a year.

PERSON SPECIFICATION - COMMUNITY FUNDRAISER

ATTRIBUTES JOB REQUIREMENTS

KNOWLEDGE

1.  Awareness of funds available for projects with young people, including an awareness of local funding sources

2.  Awareness of charitable trusts, and other sources of funding such as Big Lottery.

3.  Knowledge of tax efficient ways of giving is desirable.

4.  ‘Awareness of a range of marketing tools, including printed and digital methods.

SKILLS

1.  Experience of running community fundraising events.

2.  Excellent presentational skills in respect of written and verbal communication and ability to liaise with people at all levels.

3.  Good administrative skills. Methodical and organised with attention to detail.

4.  Time management skills, ability to prioritise, work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

5.  Able to work on own initiative. A highly motivated self-starter able to work with minimum supervision.

6.  A good team player

7.  Computer literate. Competent in data handling and word processing skills. Can demonstrate an ability to develop new IT skills.

8.  Able to update website and use a range of social media.

9.  Able to research local grants and companies.

10.  Adequate level of numeracy in order to produce forecasts and write realistic and relevant budgets, e.g. for fundraising events and small grant applications. Able to use and create spreadsheets.

11.  Good report writing skills. Able to produce high quality and accurate reports to supporters and funders.

12.  Good persuasive skills, capable of obtaining on-going support for WAYC.

ABILITY TO

1.  Contribute to the fundraising strategy in line with WAYC’s business objectives.

2.  Liaise and communicate effectively with team members and others.

3.  Work on one’s own and as part of a team.

4.  Maintain a professional image at all times.

5.  Drive and have a clean driving licence is desirable.

6.  Have an enthusiastic and positive attitude towards fundraising and marketing.

7.  Able to work flexible hours when required.

8.  Be sympathetic to the ethos of WAYC.

EXPERIENCE

1.  Experience of fundraising, or a similar role such as sales or marketing.

2.  Experience of delivering against agreed targets.

3.  Experience of organising events/fundraising events.

4.  Experience of monitoring income and expenditure.

5.  Experience of marketing and promoting an organisation.

6.  Experience of volunteering / working in the voluntary sector is desirable.

EDUCATIONAL ACHIEVEMENTS

Educated to HNC/HND; NVQ level 4 or Degree level is desirable. Previous fundraising experience or experience of sales or marketing is essential. Membership of Institute of Fundraising is desirable.
