SUPPORT STAFF STATEMENT OF BENEFITS
(Less than 20 hours)
Philosophy
The Avon Community School Corporation strives to provide an excellent working environment. Employees are important to the organization. A primary goal of the school corporation is to provide quality services in a safe environment for almost 9,300 pupils. Avon employees, therefore, are expected to adopt the philosophy, “What did I do for a child today?”
Introductory Period
All new support staff employees take part in a 90-day introductory period. The introductory period may be extended when conditions warrant. Employment is conditional during the introductory period. This time period provides the employer and the employee an opportunity to evaluate the working relationship.
Pay Schedule
A pay schedule for each support staff position is approved by the Board of School Trustees. Those who work 29 hours or less/week receive their pay every two weeks over approximately 19-20 pays/year.
Retirement Benefits
403(b) Plan: All employees are eligible to participate in a 403(b) retirement plan. Employees may contribute a set deduction up to the IRS limitation each year. Employees are always 100% vested in their contributions. This is a voluntary retirement plan. Coffman Financial will contact you only if you choose to meet with them.
PERF: Employees in this group have the option for PERF benefits. The Corporation will contribute the employer’s share (11.2%) toward a Defined Pension plan. Employee may elect to contribute 3% of gross wages. Employee must work for the corporation for at least 10 years to be 100% vested.
Leave Days
Eligibility: To be eligible for leave days, employees must be employed in a permanent position for over 90 days. Benefits are not provided during the introductory period.
Sick Leave: Each support staff employee will receive seven (7) days each year. When employment is less than a year, sick days are prorated.
· Personal Days - An employee may use one (1) sick day for personal leave each year.
· Family Illness Leave – Each support staff employee may use five (5) sick days to care for a sick family member. See Administrative Guidelines 4430 for more details.
· It is ACSC’s practice to require a doctor’s note for absences for three (3) or more consecutive days.
Vacation: Each twelve (12) month employee will receive ten (10) vacation days. One (1) additional vacation day may be earned beginning with year six (6) through year fifteen (15) for a total of twenty (20) days in the fifteenth year, if certain attendance standards are achieved. The pro-rata condition applies for less than a complete year.
Holidays: There are paid holidays: these days are cited in School Board Policy 4434.
Bereavement Leave: Each employee shall be entitled to be absent on account of death of a relative no more than the number of days immediately following the date of death as follows:
· Five (5) consecutive work days exclusive of paid holidays for death of husband, wife, son, daughter, stepmother, stepfather, stepson, stepdaughter, brother, sister, father, mother, or any relative living in the household.
· Three (3) consecutive work days in a five calendar period, exclusive of paid holidays for death of grandchild, father-in-law, mother-in-law.
· Two (2) consecutive work days in a four calendar day period, exclusive of paid holidays for brother-in-law, sister-in-law, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, grandfather, grandmother, niece, nephew, uncle, aunt.
FMLA/LOA: ACSC follows federal guidelines when approving an employee for an FMLA (Federal Medical
Leave of Absence). ACSC recommends that all employees absent five (5) or more consecutive
days contact the Benefit Coordinator to learn about their FMLA or LOA rights. An employee must
be scheduled as a fulltime employee in order to qualify for a FMLA/LOA.
Evaluation
Annual written assessments are completed by the immediate supervisor. This evaluation becomes a part of the employee file.
Employee Status
All support staff employees are at will employees and may be terminated at any time without cause.
