A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO HONOR AND RECOGNIZE THE MEMBERS OF THE ROCK HILL HIGH SCHOOL DRUMLINE, AND TO CONGRATULATE THESE YOUNG ARTISTS FOR ACCOMPLISHING THEIR GOAL OF BREAKING THE WORLD RECORD FOR THE LONGEST CONTINUOUS GROUP DRUM ROLL.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly were pleased to learn that the twentyeight percussionists of the Rock Hill High School drumline completed twentyseven hours and twentythree seconds of drumming to be recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records for the longest drum roll; and

Whereas, the Rock Hill High School drummers bested the previous world record held for a continuous group drum roll by exactly three hours; and

Whereas, director of percussion for the school band and organizer of the record attempt, Michael Skellett used his own musical ability and enthusiasm to lead these percussionists to set an incredible record at the Rock Hill Galleria in May of 2009; and

Whereas, video footage of the entire event was sent to the Guinness Book of World Records in London for verification, and after eight months the students’ efforts were rewarded with the worldrecord icon’s certification; and

Whereas, part of a unique fund raiser to enable the band to purchase a brand new set of drums and a new marimba, the event successfully netted three thousand six hundred dollars; and

Whereas, after each drummer took a few gigs on the lone drum, a permanent indentation was left on the drum and an indelible memory left with the drumline that pounded its way into the record books; and

Whereas, having performed a myriad of buzz rolls on the fulcrum, the bouncing drum sticks were finally laid to rest in anticipation of performing some paradiddles and flams on the new instruments to be purchased; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly take great pleasure in applauding the fine percussionists of the Rock Hill High School drumline and look to hear of their future rhythmic accomplishments. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, honor and recognize the members of the Rock Rill High School drumline, and congratulate these young artists for accomplishing their goal of breaking the world record for the longest continuous group drum roll.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Rock Hill High School percussion leader Michael Skellett.
