Course description:
French 225 is the second course in the Intermediate French program sequence. This course is intended to further students’ knowledge of French in the four basic language skills: reading, writing, speaking and listening comprehension.
We will review and build upon the grammatical structures learned in the first year program.
This course is also intended to expand students’ vocabulary in French. More sophisticated language will be acquired through the readings that will be assigned.
Class is conducted in French, and attendance is mandatory.
Required Materials:
Reprise: A French Grammar Review Worksheet. 2nd edition, Stillman & Gordan.
McGraw-Hill, 2007. ISBN: 10: 0-07-353541-9.
Supplementary readings and exercises will be provided. A $5 dollar fee will be collected in the first week of class.
Policies and Procedures:
- Homework: Homework has to be submitted on time for credit. Students can miss two homework assignments with little impact on their homework grade. Beyond these two assignments, homework grade will drop one notch for each missed assignment (A to A-, A- to B+, etc.)
- Participation: Students’ class participation is required and will be closely monitored.
- Attendance: Attendance is absolutely mandatory. Students can have one absence on their record with no impact on their attendance grade. Beyond this, attendance grade will drop one notch for each missed day (A to A-, A- to B+, etc.)
- Make-up exams: There are no make-up exams. If a student has justifiable circumstances that prevent him/her to take an exam on time, this student must talk to me about it ASAP.
