A HOUSE RESOLUTION
TO EXPRESS THE SINCERE SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE DEATH OF MR. THADDEUS ROGERS OF MULLINS IN MARION COUNTY, AND TO CONVEY THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives were deeply saddened by the passing of Mr. Thaddeus “T.J.” Rogers of Mullins in Marion County, a lifelong public servant to the State of South Carolina; and
Whereas, born on May 31, 1919 in Marion County, Mr. Rogers was one of thirteen children born to the late William Eddie Rogers and the late Lester Mears Rogers; and
Whereas, a devoted husband and family man, Mr. Rogers shared a loving fiftynine year marriage to Lettie Orr Rogers and produced four children, son Jim Rogers of Mullins and daughters Ellen R. Brown and Anita Byrd of Mullins and Nancy Matthews of Florence. He also enjoyed seven adoring grandchildren and one great grandchild; and
Whereas, Mr. Rogers gave tirelessly of himself in public service, retiring from the Mullins Post Office and also serving as a firefighter and fire chief of the Mullins Fire Department, where he played an integral role in strengthening its operations and providing support for fellow firefighters; and
Whereas, Mr. Rogers was instrumental in organizing the National Guard unit of Mullins, and he served in the National Guard for forty years, inspiring others with his innate sense of responsibility to serve one’s country and overwhelming patriotism for the greater nation; and
Whereas, living a rich life full of varied interests, Mr. Rogers was an outdoorsman who loved to hunt rabbit, a member of Masonic Lodge 161, the VFW, and the American Legion, an expert finisher of antiques and a furniture builder, a Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 770 for many years, and a member of Macedonia United Methodist Church; and
Whereas, Mr. Rogers is sincerely missed, but will always be remembered as a faithful public servant who remained entirely committed to the furtherance of his community and family until his final moments here on earth. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express their sincere sorrow upon the death of Mr. Thaddeus Rogers of Mullins in Marion County, and convey their deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to his wife, Mrs. Lettie Orr Rogers.
