Welcome to German IV AP class!
Your decision to continue with the language demonstrates your dedication to further your knowledge of German.
Philosophy: Reading and writing in German during summer vacation will help retard the erosionof these skills, maintain interest in German, enhance individual responsibility for learning andincrease communication. Students entering German IV AP in the Fall are required todo the following assignments. Credit for the SUMMER WORK will be included in the firstquarter grade.
Postcards: Send 2postcards (auf deutsch, natürlich!) to Liebe Frau Lehrerin. Write one in the beginning of summer and one at the end of summer.
Cardsmust be stamped and actually mailed. Pictures on the front should be school appropriate. Sendcards to: Frau Lehrerin, c/oMrs. Potter, Foreign Language Department, 20025 Lunn Road,
Strongsville, Ohio 44149.These must be mailed before August 1st.
Required German Reading: During summer break read the two short stories that I have enclosed.
Complete the work for each story on a separate piece of paper!
?define the vocabulary in English
?choose 10 words from each story and write German definitions for them
?answer the comprehension questions using complete sentences
Journals: Please write at least 4 entries in German. Two are to be responses or reactions to theassigned reading. The other two may be on a topic of your choosing, reactions to books youread this summer, summaries of summer activities, national or local events, creative writings,opinions, etc. Each entry should be 100 words in length (8 ½ x 11-notebook paper, skip lines, 14-20 sentences depending on complexity of your writing!). These assignments should be ready tobe turned in the first day back to school.
