10 Things Every New Silver Hawk Should Know
1. Look beyond stereotypes you have had of people who went to other schools, because “We’re all Silver Hawks now!” Get involved in clubs and community service to meet new people.
2. Advocate for yourself! Ask questions, participate in class discussions, know what is expected of you, and use available resources, such as Hawks Nest Tutorial.
3. Do not procrastinate! As a Silver Hawk, you are taking high school honors and Wake Tech Community College classes, so use your time wisely.
4. Use your Silver Hawk agenda to record project and test dates. Most WTCC instructors do not accept late assignments, and there is typically no extra credit.
5. You must earn a “C” or better in your WTCC course for it to transfer, and these grades are recorded on an official WTCC
transcript. You begin WTCC courses during your Junior year, and your grades will follow you!
6. Make the most of your Friday READY sessions, so that you will further develop your Employability Skills: communication, entrepreneurship, information processing, integrity, networking, problem-solving and critical thinking, professionalism, and teamwork skills.
7. Understand Project-Based Learning (PBL): Student learning through investigations, generating original ideas, and working collaboratively to produce products that demonstrate what has been learned. You may have more projects than tests.
8. Appreciate the opportunity for Work-Based Learning (WBL): WBL is your chance to learn things you can’t learn in the
classroom. WBL connects the classroom to the real-world through job shadowing, internships, and apprenticeships.
9. We are a Bring Your Own Device School (BYOD).
