Due Friday 9/18 via GoogleDrive or a printed copy turned in!!

What’s happening in our world today?

Think of the world dynamics we’ve discussed so far in classes and through your parent interviews. What ideas, events, issues, dynamics, etc have most struck you? Why? What have you learned about them so far?

We will use two class periods to plan and write a short essay (about one page typed) that explores what you have learned about our world so far this year. Our next stop in Social Studies will be going back in time to Rome, so I want to make sure you understand some modern dynamics before we go back and compare/contrast our current world with the past!

Period 1 –

§  Brainstorm some dynamics you have learned about this year so far

§  Come up with a thesis/claim that generalizes about three of these dynamics (Ms. Gough will guide you in this step)

§  Open a GoogleDoc in your GoogleDrive and share it with Ms. Gough

§  Begin writing! Start with a short introduction that includes your thesis/claim and mentions “our world today” in some way

Period 2 –

§  Continue writing your piece

§  When there are 15 minutes left in the period, make sure you start wrapping up your writing and end with a short conclusion (Ms. Gough will guide you in this step at the start of class)

§  Don’t forget to spell check and use proper punctuation and capitalization along the way!

§  Print your piece

Your essay should:

·  Include a short introduction where you state your thesis/claim

·  Include a short conclusion

·  Discuss at least 3 different world dynamics you’ve learned about so far – make sure you clearly explain each dynamic (it make take several sentences to do this for each one!)

·  For each dynamic you explain, talk about why it struck you and what you think/understand/wonder about it

·  Be about one typed page (12 pt font) with 1 inch margins

·  Have a heading in the top right corner

·  Be proofread for spelling and mechanical errors
