Personal and Social/Emotional Well Being: Developing Students’ Sense of Self-Worth and Belonging/Connectedness to Others

A two-day workshop with Dr. Jennifer Katz

This workshop focuses on developing students’ sense of self-worth and belonging / connectedness to others. Strategies for supporting students' developing identity as a learner and person, skills and understandings related to interpersonal connection, emotional resilience and mindfulness will be shared.

Dr. Jennifer Katz

Dr. Katz received her PhD in 2008 from the University of British Columbia in inclusive education. She is the author ofTeaching to Diversity: The Three Block Model of Universal Design for LearningandResource Teacher: A Changing Role in the Three-Block Model of UDL. Dr. Katz has been a successful sessional lecturer, educational consultant, classroom teacher, editor, and guidance counselor. She taught in diverse classrooms from K-12 in Winnipeg and Vancouver for 16 years, including special education classrooms, inclusive classrooms, youth centres, and alternative high school programs. Her work as an advocate of inclusive education has spanned several provinces and territories, and multiple audiences, including university courses, academic conferences, parent advocacy groups, educational conferences, school and division based professional development workshops, and most importantly, direct work with children and youth in schools and alternative settings. She is currently an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education at the University of Manitobaand is the founder of the Manitoba Alliance for Universal Design for Learning (MAUDEL).

Registrations include six coffee/snack breaks, two buffet lunches, and parking for two days.

We are currently applying to see if this workshop is eligible for contact hours credit towards the Special Education, Level 1 School Administrator, or Level 2 Principal Certificate with Manitoba Education.
