American Studies Research Paper Overview

Works Consulted (This will become a Works Cited by your final paper.) – 10 points

  1. 7 sources – use mostly articles from the databases suggested (Don’t forget about books!)
  2. Correct MLA format for Works Cited (See sample Works Cited page in your packet)
  3. Sources listed alphabetically by author’s last name. If no author, use the title. Ignore words in the title such as “A” or “The” when alphabetizing.

Note Cards - 40 points

  1. 4 x 6 index cards - use blue or black ink and one side only
  2. Correct format - 20 cards (See sample note card in your packet)
  3. Done partially in class, but some work at home will be required
  4. If you are absent on the due date, you must send cards in with a student or parent to get full credit. Late cards lose a letter grade per day. No cards accepted after 2 days.

Outline—20 points

1. See instructions in packet.

2.If you are absent on the due date, you must email your outline that day to get full credit. Late outlines lose a letter grade per day. No outline accepted after 2 days.

Rough draft printed out for peer revision—10 points (If you are absent, you must email rough draft on the due date for credit.) Also, print out an extra copy of your Works Cited to evaluate for Mrs. Yerkees.

Final Draft of Paper--250 points

  1. Length: 5-7 pages
  1. Format: MLA style

12 point Times New Roman font

Stapled in left-hand corner

No plastic covers

  1. Outline: Typed, revised final outline that matches paper

Must be turned in with paper, but not stapled to it

  1. Works Cited Page: Placed at end of paper and page numbered accordingly

Must includeat least 5 sources from which you have cited

  1. Number of Citations: Minimum of 7, which may be either direct quotations or paraphrased statements

Final Product - 250 points

  1. ONE copy of the paper stapled with rubric & Works CitedAll of these must be
  2. All note cards, outlines, and rough draftsplaced in a pocket
  3. An electronic copy saved to my Inboxfolder with your

as Last name_Firstname_Researchname on it.

  1. An extra copy of your Works Cited printed out to evaluate for Mrs. Yerkees

The research paper must be turned in on or before the due date. NO LATE PAPERS WILL BE ACCEPTED UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE. Refer to the calendar for all due dates.
