Create Your Own Super Hero
We have discussed “The Hero’s Journey” and discovered how Max follows this path in discovering his true self. In the process, he and Kevin create the super hero “Freak the Mighty” based on their strengths and weaknesses. Your job is to create your own super hero from two different characters who have different strengths and weaknesses. These can be real characters (ie: Batman and Superman), or they can be real people (ie: you and a friend).
Your descriptions must be written in complete sentences, written in blue/black ink or typed, and the drawing of your super hero must be neat and colorful. You will present your super hero and explain his/her origin and story to the class.
Requirements:
- The names of the two characters or real people your super hero is composed of, and then the original name of your combined super hero.
- A listing of the strengths and weaknesses brought from each character or person composing your super hero and an explanation of why/how they go together well.
- A detailed paragraph explaining your super hero’s purpose and how they contribute to the world around them. Example: “Freak the Mighty” stopped the bullies and saved Loretta. Why is this kind of super hero needed in our world today? How does your super hero compare to “Freak the Mighty” and their journey together?
- You must render a colorful drawing of your super hero that fills up a sheet of notebook or copy paper (8.5 x 11). Make sure you display the super hero’s name at the top.
- You must create a dictionary showcasing some of your super hero’s favorite words. Use your imagination and create unusual words that tie to your character. They can be nonsense words (ie: not real words), but they have to make sense to your super hero. You must have at least five words with definitions, and small illustrations for at least two words.
- You will present your super hero to the class and explain his/her story!
