Needles: Crochet 1.5 mm = U.S. steel size 8
2.1 mm = U.S. steel size 3
Circumference of hat: 50 - 40 cm or 15 ¾” – 19 11/16”or [1 cm = 0.39370 inches]
Pattern:
- Chain 5; slip stitch in first chain stitch. (you can also use the magic circle and do 16 DC in circle eliminating Row 2).
- Chain3; 15 DC in circle just made, slip stitch to top of chain.
- Chain 4; FPDC in next DC, chain 1; * FPDC in next FPDC, Ch. 1 * repeat to the end, slip stitch to top of chain.
- Chain 3; FPDC in first FPDC (right under chain just made), chain 1; DC in next DC; FPDC in same DC (which is in the same stitch below just made DC), chain 1; *DC in next DC; FPDC in same DC, chain1*; repeat * till end of row; slip stitch to top of chain.
- Chain 4; skip next DC; FPDC in next FPDC, chain 1; DC in next DC, chain1; *FPDC in next FPDC, chain 1; DC in next DC, chain 1*; repeatfrom * till the end of row. Slip Stitch to top of chain.
- Chain 3; DC in next DC (right at chain point), Ch.1; FPDC in next FPDC, Ch.1; 2 DC in next DC, Ch. 1; FPDC in next FPDC, Ch. 1; *2 DC in next DC, Ch. 1; FPDC in next FPDC, Ch.1;*; Repeat from * to * till the end slip stitch top of chain 3.
- Chain 3; DC in next DC; DC in next DC, Ch.1; FPDC, Ch.1;*2 DC in next DC, DC in next DC Ch.1; FPDC, Ch.1 in next FPDC; * repeat * till the end; slip stich top of chain 3.
- Chain 3; 1 DC in each of the next 3 DC, Ch 1; FPDC , ch1; *2 DC in next DC, DC in the next DC; DC in the next DC, Ch. 1; FPDC, ch1*; repeat from * to * till end.
- Chain 3; DC in next DC, DC in next DC, DC in next DC, Ch.1; skip next DC; FPDC in next FPDC, Ch. 2; *2 DC in next DC, DC in next DC, DC in next DC, Ch.1; skip next DC; FPDC in next FPDC, Ch.2;* repeat from * to * till the end of row, slip stitch top of chain. Continue repeating this row until 25 rows are completed.
- [Change to hook size 2.1mm or US #8 hook] Chain 1; 3 SC in next 3 SC; 1 SC in next space; 1 SC in next SC; 1 SC in next space; *4 SC in next 4 SC; 1 SC in next space; 1 SC in next SC; 1 SC in next space*; continue from * to * till the end slip sticth. (This starts Brim of hat – you can change to a different color to create a band on the hat just for this row - then change back to orginal hat color to continue next row).
- Chain 3; skip next SC; FPDC in next SC, DC in the SC stitch you have just FPDC; skip next SC; FPDC in next SC; DC in the same SC; skip next SC; *FPDC in next SC; DC in same SC; skip next SC*; continue from * to * till end of row slip stitch top of chain.
- Chain 3; FPDC in the next FPDC; DC in the next DC;*FPDC in the next FPDC; DCin the next DC*; continue from * to * till the end slip stitch top of chain. Continue this row for 7 more rows (or until desired length).
- Ch. 1; (crab or scallop hat edging) Ch. 1; Reverse SC all around till end slip stitch and weave in ends.
